Ooh, a geology challenge. I haven't been entering many lately, but it would be pretty lame if I didn't do something for this.

I also have to do a cover shot for a university text book a geology professor friend of mine is writing. Maybe I can double-end this one.

Vote for Slippy!

I mean, if you don't ribbon in this one, you should be banished from DPC.

Gneiss pun, but schisty timing.

Not in the area at the moment, but I've been spending time recently photographing some of the most fascinating geology on planet earth in a place I've come to call, "The Land of Secrets".

My immodest goal for this harsh, uninviting wilderness is to present its many little known wonders to a much larger world audience. My stamina, persistence and skill as a photographer will be the only limiting factors, but not the land. The geology of this vast territory is unique in all the world. It will take years to do it justice.

Just to make it perfectly clear (although that never really matters here LOL)

Geology (from Greek: ge, "earth"; to talk about the earth) is the science and study of the solid and liquid matter that constitutes the Earth. The field of geology encompasses the study of the composition, structure, physical properties, dynamics, and history of Earth materials, and the processes by which they are formed, moved, and changed. The field is a major academic discipline, and is also important for mineral and hydrocarbon extraction, knowledge about and mitigation of natural hazards, some engineering fields, and understanding past climates and environments.

The definition of Geology in the challenge is pretty crappy. IMNSHO, it would have been better off with something more vague, such as "Geology, something else Canadians are better at than Americans."

Ohhhh, it's ON now, dude! :)

(I don't know how to back that up though! No interesting geological formations around here, lack of talent, etc. But some of you other Americans on the other hand .......)

I'm in. Didn't turn out how I envisioned, but I put too much effort into it to not throw it in.

I have an idea, but don't have the equipment to do it. I don't know if I can find what I need, even in Toronto. :-(

Sadly, I had everything I needed years ago, but lost it through non-use.

Too bad I'm booked at work most of today.

Still, I have most of a bottle of whiskey at home, which helps to motivate me. Maybe I can come up with something before midnight. ;-)

Whiskey is ok every now and then but you should try Whisky - an all round much better beverage :)

We have a geological museum here, Newfoundland is all rock but I don't have a photo. Going out for lunch with a friend then going to try and come up with a photo for the challenge.

Apparently there are hoodoos about 15 minutes north of Calgary. No one told me. Why didn't anyone tell me? :)

I drove by them last night and I would have stopped to shoot them but it was raining quite heavily and I my wife (who was driving) didn't want to stop.
