Just a reminder, that since Langdon added a link/button to "Report this post as spam (see below) almost two years ago, users are obligated to use that button, and to not call-out, voice suspicions of, accuse, bait, make fun of, or otherwise respond to a post they suspect of being SPAM by posting themselves in the thread.

Experience has shown that such user suspicions are not always well-founded, and such responses definitely present an unwelcoming face to any legitimate new user who makes an unfortunately-worded post.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Despite our best efforts, spam has become a regular occurrence here in the forums of DPC. We are trying a few different things to stifle future spam posts and have implemented a number of features to prevent it. However, there is unfortunately nothing that's going to completely stop real people from signing up, confirming their email address, and posting some garbage that none of us want to see.

I just wanted to make a quick announcement to explain a new feature that will let you guys help us fight the good fight and participate in the war against spam. On the bottom left of each post, you will see a link to "Report this post as spam". This will serve as a quicker method of purging spam from our forums.

I wanted to make this specific announcement to also ask that you please use this feature diligently. Since posts/threads will automatically be hidden at a certain threshold, this puts the power to hide content in the hands of our users. The use of this feature will be monitored, so please use it only as necessary.

Thanks,
Langdon

I am soooo itching to click that "spam" link right now LOL

And I was seconds away from posting an addendum that anyone pushing the spam button for that post ... well, let's just suggest that certain features regarding imposing suspensions are far more effective when automated ... ;-)

Funny thing... I've never had the "Report this post as spam" button... It's just not there. Odd???

It's a link in small type in the left column, under the poster's username, and camera.

I think it would be better to humbly ask for a button to judiciously report split infinitives. ;-Þ

...And now that I have read all those message's about those report's of spam, maybe theres two button's more to be added,(it would take two) to eliminate false possessive's when the poster's really mean to be plural.

Just a quickie - when clicking the "Report this post as spam" button - there is a typo in there "Are you sure you want to repot this post as spam?"

It's important to repot posts once in a while. Of course, ideally, you want to transfer them to the wild.

If you repot it the system will delte it

So, does the "report this post as spam" on the left have the same function as the "report post" button on the right? Should we also have one right in the middle, just for good measure?

I'd like to add that when using a touchscreen smartphone, I've accidently reported a few posts as spam. Its only happened twice, but its easy to do when you are surfing fast. The first time it happened I clicked the link without even noticing and because I was scrolling so fast tapped the "yes" to the pop up window... Just thought i'd add that it can happen accidently when surfing on a mobile...

How do you interpret a winking smiley-face emoticon?

The "Report as Spam" link is different and, if you read Langdon's original post, more powerful -- enough user reports will actually hide the offending post prior to SC intervention.

The "regular" Report Post button is for the SC to review posts by existing members for possible Forum Rules or site TOS violations (other than SPAM).

Thanks for clarifying, General!

Since we're back on the topic, it would be nice if when you clicked the button it wouldn't take you to the top of the page, whether you meant to hit it or not. Sometimes by accident I'll be clicking the page to scroll and hit one and lose my place.
