I found a website that wants to feature some of my photography, do I need to get my pictures copywrited beforehand? What does it do for me?

oh.. oops. Well, I visit state parks quite often and am prone to taking pics about every 5 steps. I ran into to a park ranger yesterday at my favorite park, showed him a few photos I had taken that day in my camera and he was thrilled. He called someone and to make a long story short, they want my pics on that park's website.

What do I do now? I told him I'd let him know a.s.a.p. what I would like to do and get back with him...

You already have a copyright on them. To register them officially only gets you more protection if they are used in violation of your copyright. Among other minor things you can sue for lawyer fees and receive extra damages.

But you don't have to do anything special in this case if you don't want to. Lots of people license their photos without officially registering them.
