For the first time in the history of the United States we have a dictator. It's president has oversteped his authority by declaring unmaried people eligable for government employee rights reserved for the legally recognised spouses and children.
Another benifit for government employees.
This is a sad time for all Americans.

Anything anyone anywhere does that advances the belief that all people, regardless of sexual orientation, are equal in every way is a good thing.

Anything anyone anywhere does that perpetuates bigotry is a bad thing.

This has nothing to do with gay. It is about authority.

I'm guessing that you were asleep when Cheney had his hand up the Bush presidential sock puppet and basically ruled this country by presidential decree
for eight years.

Actually NO... albeit it could be for those that are intolerant and bigoted.

(Please note: Aussie asking a serious question about something he doesn't understand)

Based on the American news shows and comedy routines we see here, Vice Presidents, much like Deputy Prime Ministers, are treated as somewhat of a joke and are really only taken seriously if the numero uno croaks it while in office. This certainly seemed to be true with Gore and Biden. Why then does Cheney break this mould?

If Only I Were A Dictator, by George W. Bush

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

Yes, George W. Bush has stated he'd prefer to be a dictator at least three times, according to BuzzFlash.com:

* * *

"You don't get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier." Describing what it's like to be governor of Texas.
(Governing Magazine 7/98)

-- From Paul Begala's "Is Our Children Learning?"

"I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator," Bush joked.

-- CNN.com, December 18, 2000

"A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it, " [Bush] said.

The fact that Obama was a professor of constitutional law, and that several Bush policies were tossed by the Supreme Court, suggests that you know very little about the subject.

He being a ...bla bla bla.. doesn't mean he is following it. Show me where he has authority to declare the rights to the individuals he did yesterday.

So I suppose the fewer insured the better in your eyes. Many places of employment offer benefits to non married couples same sex or not. There is nowhere in the constitution that reserves benefits for only married couples. I was lucky enough to be able to use my wife's benefits for a year before we were married. It saved us a lot of money over the course of that year. But I guess that's too much for you to handle. So in summary... BENEFITS ARE NOT RESERVED FOR MARRIED COUPLES!!!!!

The waiving of the Geneva convention and the right of habeus corpus, the removal of judicial oversight on abregating the right of a citizen to privacy, none of that seemed like a president overstepping his powers, but this does?
