Damn, I was going to weed them out by asking for a DQ.

I thought the same thing.

Yes, I also think pictures of people smoking is disturbing, as it could actually serve to promote it. I wish they had worded it to eliminate the simple way out:

"..except that pictures of people or animals smoking are specifically prohibited."

My husband joked that I should take a picture of a nun smoking. How much you want to bet that someone will take a picture of a nun? Or at least a friend dressed up like one?

Maybe it's a typo and they meant hobbits ...

I'm thinking more like 400 plus shots of kids picking their noses or men scratching their... well... scratching. After all, you can't throw a stick without hitting some kid digging for gold or some old guy digging for... well... digging.

In San Francisco this is a problem? Now maybe finding one with hairy feet who hasn't used any mousse or styling gel ...

True. Maybe I'll challenge myself by looking for someone that has slicked in the back with the superman curled tuft of hair in the front.

I find the way the SC thinks about us very ... interesting. "No illegal substances, no torturing of small animals, no self-mutilation, no ..." ;)

I believe you may have the Site Council confused with the site's Counsel (attorney) ... we think you're just an average bunch of photographic fanatics ...

(Remember that encouraging or depicting the use of any illegal substance is a violation of DPC Terms Of Use.)

Illegal where? Some things are legal in certain quantities, some countries or for certain ages or with a prescription...

Hmm, pic of me looking at DPC website...that has become a habit! LOL

Actually Terms of use 4.2 (viii) prohibits any depiction that "encourages or depicts the use of drugs, alcohol or cigarettes".

In other words it doesn't need to be illegal to be prohibited. Any depiction of the use of any drug (including cigarettes and alcohol) is not on as far as I can see?

I bet you can still smoke out a few since cigarettes is also banned in the terms of use. They should update the challenge details to "We all have them, some good, some bad (although all the bad ones are ruled out, so don't you dare use them!)"

Nope, been around for as long as I've been around. andywightman actually quote the section from the Terms Of Use:

4.2 You will not use the DPChallenge.com Service to post content ... that ... (viii) encourages or depicts the use of drugs, alcohol or cigarettes

The key words are "encourages" and "depicts the use".

Remember that a literal photograph of a computer screen will be disqualified for violating the "art" rule.

Illegal where?

In the country where the DPC server is located, which is the United States.

So taking a photo showing a bunch of people outside an office tower having a smoke is not acceptable?
05/12/2004 08:01:39 AM · #24
Well, I had this great shot planned of a short hairy guy in a nun outfit smoking while taking a picture of himself in front of a computer with one hand clicking on dpc results and the other scratching his privates with a big bong in the foreground...but it sounds pretty cliched !!! hehehehe :-)
