Good stuff there, but I think you might be getting carried away. If you want to be ignored in a side challenge, post a bunch of thumbs en masse.

Just a friendly tip. I'd hate for this excellent image to be overlooked.

Geez. Enjoying the viewing. I get inspired then head in to town and realize there isn't a serious "street" within 50 miles of here. Not sure this fits, but what the heck..

Stumbled upon some local news anchors in the middle of a photo shoot.

LOL! I load this thread every time someone posts something new (and I'm working my through with comments here and there - taking me awhile), but had to note that I always look at the thumbs without looking at the poster (natural tendency for me) and I can always tell when the thumbs are going to have "nixter" next to them.

A great HCB read, that I just came across...

Do the elements that he describes ("meaningful coincidence", "coincidence of line", "human element to intrude", "unpredictable gestures"), or the themes he scoped out come into play when you shoot. OR do you have your own version?

I actually went to the exhibition the article refers to (the one at the National Media Museum in Bradford). Quite possibly one of the best exhibitions I have ever been to.

Why are you converting/shooting this in black&white?

I think it's usually to try to focus the image better. In a real street photo you have no control over the colours, people are dressed in clashing colours that can make the photo very chaotic. Bringing it over into black and white 'fixes' that problem and lets you focus on the composition and actions in the photo better.

..atleast that's why I tend to do it.

I usually process in color first, then convert and decide which I like best. I tend to prefer B&W in most things, not just street stuff, but if a photograph tells the story better in color (there's one of Brian's like this, and a recent one of Nick's) then I let it be in color.

:) thanks foe the feedback, i did kinda cross my mind that it was too many pics but i put them all in for a few reasons, a. no one seems to be bothering with comments much here anyway, i tried at the start but seemed to go unnoticed plus i am very very new to photography anyway so not much advice i can give. b. i loved all these shots and didnt wanna leave some out so i had the choice to put them all together or put them separately which i think would have been worse.

but point taken, i will refrain from mass postage in future :)

Wow, I thought it was me and I had posted a picture of someone that Mr. Pawdrix knew or something.
(I got the same comment).

So far as black and white is concerned, pretty much for me I look to see if the color has any significance. I ask myself - is the color a distraction (if yes, it gets converted) - and does it "add" anything to the picture (if not, it gets converted). And then I compare them before deciding for sure. Of course there are lots and lots of photos out there where color is the best part - but that's not usually the case with street photography. IMO.

i agree with this totally, i find for street stuff black and white gives a nicer, more realistic feel 90% of the time, often colour takes away from the message, composition or impact of the photo. though having said that a few of my shots from the market i left in colour as the fresh produce was the subject, not the people, and these worked alot better in colour.

Some people take this photography business too seriously.
