Hi Guys,
This isn't meant as any kind of spam message - I think it's something that will interest you guys and benefit you all in making money out of your images
We've just (literally in the last half an hour) launched a limited beta of Pixelfetch.com which is a new stock photography site designed to shake up the stock photography industry.
We felt that traditional microstock sites have stagnated a bit recently - they don't keep up with trends across the internet at all and they're pretty clunky and old-fashioned and their user interfaces are horrible.
Pixelfetch is built on some pretty awesome technology and while it's very much in beta (you can't buy any images on the site for another few weeks yet), we've got a ridiculously long roadmap of features that will push stock sales up (earning you more money).
At the moment we're just looking to have a database of photographs online that we can test with and launch new features from - we're currently in soft launch mode and will be having a hard launch in a few weeks time. As beta users you'll benefit from being the only people with photos on the site when we hard launch into public mode, which should gain you extra exposure.
Your help testing the system and uploading photos is much appreciated, and we'll think of a suitable thank you to all of you who do sign up in the next few weeks as a sign of our gratitude.

•Registration seems to work OK, but I can't seem to get to the photo uploader.
•TOS do not explicitly address the issue of exclusivity (or rather the lack thereof)
•Apostrophe on the "I'm new ..." upload intro page shows up as code in IE 6 ...
Good luck -- it seems a somewhat oversaturated field ... :-) |

I'm interested in your "unique.pixels" feature -- whereby clients can essentially spec images; as I've had both a lot of luck and a lot of fun, using similar features at other macrostock sites. I'm curious, though, since you appear to clearly be placing your price-points in the microstock market, how will those spec shots be priced?
I think that sort of feature lends itself very well to macro -- where the possible return on your investment of time and energy could reasonably "pay off" were your image(s) selected... But to shoot on spec, and then only recoup $0.50/image... I'm not sure that's a lot of incentive, aside from the other intangibles of simply "growing" a portfolio for future sales.

We haven't even tested in IE6 yet. It's horrible and outdated but we'll make it work eventually :-)

As above, it'll get fixed. If you have Firefox handy it should work fine :-)

Yep, you're entirely right - clients can spec images. This feature is actually going to be pretty awesome - the way it works is that a client sets a spec/brief and a budget, and photographers are able to submit entries towards this as well as bid against it. It makes it quite competitive but this kind of approach may increase the market for shot-to-spec photography.
We're only planning on taking a 20% commission on work shot using this method as the transaction amounts will be substantially higher so it will probably turn out to be a pretty good earner for those taking part.
Clients will also be able to choose whether the image has to be exclusive or not - if not then after the brief has been closed and an image decided on and purchased by the client you can choose to submit your image into the main catalogue. Same goes for if you lose the brief, regardless of whether the client chose exclusivity or not.
