(I just spent 10 mins deciding which bit of the forum this should go in and as its about my photography I hope here is right!)

I havent picked up my camera in about 6 weeks. Havent even turned it on. Not sure why, but I seem to have lost my inspiration (yeah yeah I never had any say the people looking at my portfolio :P )and I want to get it back!!

I think Im trying too hard to want to be enthused and thats making it even worse. Does anyone have a similar experience or any suggestions on how to gee up my flacid mojo?

I was planning a photoshoot for the end of next month that I was really excited about but have had to cancel cos I just cant afford it, with that not on the horizon I just dont know what to do now. I had a great idea for the Automobile Ad challenge but couldnt sum up the energy to actually shoot it. Maybe because I knew that the photo in my head wouldnt be the photo in my camera.

Any advice or suggestions would be hugely welcome!

I get that way with things sometimes, I think it's pretty natural. For me it just moves in cycles, although sometimes it takes a little extra push to get through. Here's an example, before I started participating at DPC I had barely touched my digital camera for a few months but the idea of submitting photos here got me excited for it again. Now I barely touch my film cameras, but I'm sure in time I'll rediscover my love for that too.

Another example for me is surfing. Surfing is by far my favorite thing to do, but for whatever reason all winter I was too lazy to put on a wetsuit and deal with the minor inconveniences of getting in the water. I had essentially given up on it all together. Then one day I actually forced myself to go and within 2 minutes I remembered why I love it so much and now I have the bug again and it's all I think about.

So, my advice is to just pick up the camera and take a picture of something. Just go for a walk or drive and look for something interesting and shoot. It might seem like a lot of effort at first, but It'll come back to you. Try not to psych yourself out by thinking "oh well, it won't come out right anyway" because a lot of times i've found that even when things go wrong they can still be great. Good luck!

btw, this is awesome

Try getting a few prints made, I felt pretty similar a while back and found that actually getting some prints (as opposed to just viewing my photos on the computer) inspired me again.

I don't know if its just me, because I havn't really had many prints done in the past, but I found that it really helped. I even put together the beginning of a 'portfolio' of what I think are my best shots, just for myself- but it worked!

Good luck!

Hmmm, good ideas, thx

Im going on a journey up to the midlands tomorrow for work so will take my camera in the car, just incase! :)

And buy myself a new colour cartridge for my printer & print some stuff out. I havent even looked in the side challenge forum for a while now, guess I should and see what happens

Fingers crossed for more mojo. ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' steefmcbeef I think u may be right about forcing myself to just do something, anything to regain it. Right now Im thinking ooo these suggestions are good but still have no motivation to actually follow through, its just going to be a case of do it and hope that it bring some motivation back.
