i need help with openoffice.
i need to register *.csv extension to be viewed/opened automatically by scalc.exe (openoffice's spreadsheet)
it is a windows XP machine.
while it will be easy fix by using the "open with" submenu and then choosing a new default viewer for CSV, i'm asked to change this for a huge number of workstations, so walking up to each and doing it manually would kill me. i'm sure winXP handles file extensions somewhere in the registry. i would like to export that part out so i can "merge" it into all the computers remotely. i'm stuck at WHERE in the registry can i find the CSV default viewer string?
thanks :( |

I'm not on XP right now but if I remember correctly, the file type associations should be under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\file-type-definition\shell\ |

In Windows Explorer can't you just right click on one of the .csv files > choose Open With... > Choose a default program... > point to your program (may have to browse to find it) and check the box that says Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.
My bad I thought I read your original post... must be time for bed... sheesh.
Possibly:
hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\fileexts\.csv\openwithlist
