Hello everybody! I've been browsing this site for quite some time and finally decided to join up. I don't have much experience shooting but really enjoy it. With so much to learn, especially seeing some of these beautiful submissions, I am hoping the challenges will teach and excite me. I welcome all feedback, both positive and constructive. My whole purpose for doing this is to improve my skills.

BTW, I saw a side challenge I'd like to submit to. I went to insert image link and it wants a URL. What is it I need to do to post a photo? Thanks for your help!

Welcome Shari! DPC is such a wonderful place to learn and for the sheer entertainment value. Don't get too discouraged, listen to who you gain respect for and overall remember life and death is not determined by your final challenge score (even if it does feel like it at times)

Regarding the side challenge others will have to answer that for registered users. For members you would be able to load an image to your profile and then link to it using the 2nd from the last icon on the top of the message box (Insert Thumbnail Link to Site Image)

If you are not a paying memeber and want to post a photo, you'll have to have it posted on some other website, and then link to it. Not that we discourage posting large images directly to the threads -- a thumbnail or text link which takes one to the full-sized image is the pro[er procedure. There's more info in one of the Tutorials (under the Learn Menu) on exactly how to do this.

If you get a paid membership, you will have portfolio space here to upload the image, and then there's an easier way to link to it using the thumbnail button (second from the right) in the box where you compose your post -- just add the DPC image ID number (at the very end of the URL).

There is a way of linking to offsite thumbnails with bbcode if you don't have a paid account. The downside is others will not be able to comment on your posts unless they also have an account at the other site. I use the All sizes+ extension for firefox. Ocassionally I will want to post a thumbnail link to something I have over on Flickr, such as this.

It works well, but the code can be done manually if needed. PM me if I can help you with it.

Welcome to DPC. Hope that you find it interesting and informative as well as entertaining. There are a lot of good people on this site, and the site council does a good job of side tracking the trouble makers.
