| Ok I am very stumped I dont know much about sizeing photos and not sure if I have to. but I have about 1300 photos form a wedding and I am trying to put them all on a cd. But it looks like I have to put them on about 4 cds. What am I doing wrong and what do I have to do. I am working with Photoshop CS3 Thanks for you time |

| What is your reasoning for wanting them on 1 CD? Are these for client proofing? |

| Yea this is for the bride I didnt know if it was possible to put that many on 1 cd |

| You'll need to create an Action in Photoshop which re-sizes the photo and saves it under a new name/format (optionally in a new location). Then you run the Batch operation on your folder(s) full of images specifying the Action you created. |

Sounds like the kind of thing you would want to batch process for this purpose.
If it is for small prints or viewing onscreen, something of about 1024x768 ought to do for the purpose and you can apply a little compression to make them smaller. If it is for proofing I would make them even smaller. 640x480 should be enough for them to decide which shots they want, but not big enough for them to get decent prints out of. At that resolution and with a little compression, you should have no trouble at all fitting the images.
I have a 7" digital frame at home, and an old 128Mb SD card in it. By sizing my photos to about the resolution of the frame (800x480) and putting a modest amount of compression on them, I have several hundred pics loaded and most of the space is still available to add more.

If you are just giving the bride a cd for proofing I would size them down to a max resolution of 640 pixels on the largest side and then save them as jpegs with a medium compression factor. If you are giving the bride a cd to make prints off of, you want to leave them at max resoution and burn them on to a dvd instead. IMHO. |

| I checked out your smugmug page and see that you do alot of shooting. For the type of work your doing, you should look into lightroom. It's a great program for batch processing. It's also way easier to resize multiple images than CS3. Plus, there's a plugin that allows you to upload directly to your smugmug page from lightroom. |

the one thing i don't like about lightroom is that it doesn't let you define your own folder structure...

I'm not sure about the first Lightroom, but in version 2 I can make, rename, or move folders easily. The problem comes when you manipulate the folders outsite of lightroom. Is this what you were meaning by folder structure? |

don't mean to hijack the thread, but yes. i guess its understandable. i only tried lighroom 1 though, haven't tried 2.
