No, in this case, being Texture VI, if you don't know what to expect, have a look at what was submitted before. Unless of course you want someone to tell you exactly what to take, what angle to hold your camera, and how to process it. A little imagination would be nice. Additional Guidance realyl is only needed if the title needs some explaination

"A texture occurs in a photograph because of the interaction between light and a three dimensional surface. Use this information to make the viewer "feel" the appearance of your subject."

Ah right, got it. So it's a lit 3 dimensional object then.

Where the hell am I going to find one of those? ;)

ETA: thanks for the help, I'm just being flippant.

Hum... Think I got an idea. Worst thing that could happen is to get smashed by the DNMC hammer I suppose =)

I guess the other way round .. as every photo you take bound to have some texture in it ...so as long as the subject covers most of the space it will be valid as a texture photo :)

I'm thinkng the texture should be the subject of the photo, rather than the object. I'm thinking of putting 2-3 textures together in a nice spatial arrangement. Wonder if DP appreciates abstract geometry, tough :)

Took some Interior Designing classes a few years back so I was thinking of putting textures together. Not sure what else to do? Learning is the best way correct? Learning and having fun...cant beat that correct?

Looking at the past top 10s, it seems like there is no particular type of shot that does well, other than it being a good photo. They do all show a definite rough texture (like skin, scales etc) whereas 'smooth' is also a texture. Texture is a sliding scale from smooth to rough and glass, for example, is smooth.

i posted this same theory elsewhere :)

texture is sort of a spectrum - from smooth >>>> rough

lol, you'll love this. Its 1.10am here, I've just finished a whole load of work and was having a cup of tea outside when I saw the most amazing looking slug in an S shape on a very textured leaf. I was feeling (am feeling) really tired, but ready for the challenge, I decided to bring it inside, set up some lights, throw the macro on and see what I could do with some backlighting on the leaf, slug and all.
As I was just getting there, my 8 week old puppy came screaming in, ate the slug and ran away with the leaf!

This is on top of me trying to do the postcard challenge all week, but the whole town went under something like 2 metres of water on Tuesday, and it hasn't stopped raining, so there's been no postcards either.

And I thought I would do the fitness challenge, arranged for a muscle bound friend of my daughter's to come round, but he can't because he's stranded on the other side of the floods.....

I give up!

At least your puppy got something good out of the week! Maybe you could use his/her fur for your texture.

I'm in, but I think it will be dead and burried before voting is over.
From a distance it's nice, but don't get too close please.
