I apologize if this is a repeated inquiry. I did do a forum search first, but just didn't find the answers I was looking for.
I will be purchasing a Canon 50D soon and would like input on the best general purpose lens and also MACRO lens to purchase for it. Budget for each $200-500.
Would love all and any input. |

LOL Freakin beat me to it. The Tamron should be mid 300's and then I would suggest the 50mm 1.8 which you can get for $85.00. That would keep you under 500. The 100mm marco you have to wait around for a deal they can run up to 500 alone |

Thank you both.
Just to clarify... I'm looking to spend up to $500 a piece.
Thanks again. :-) |

I don't think the 28-75mm Tamron, lovely as it is, (and I own one) is the best choice for an all-around lens on this camera. 28mm just isn't wide enough, IMO. The Canon 17-85mm EF-S IS can be had in the $300 range, and IMO that's a better choice for an all-around lens. As for macro, you can get the 60mm EF-S Canon macro for way less than the 100mm (again, I own one) and it's an outstanding performer, every bit as tack-sharp as the 100...

I am looking at buying the Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon on eBay.
I can get it for $350. However it's from Tokyo, Japan.
It states: "This Lens is Japanese domestic version(There is no functional difference between Japanese version and international one)."
Has anyone ever done this before (buy internationally)? Is it a bad idea? |

I'd be weary of warranty issues. |

This is not what you want to hear, probably, but if you are going to drop up to $1000 ($500 x 2) then the 24-105 L lens is incredible. Won't give you your macro, but it is a lifetime purchase. As an all around lens it cannot be beat. My approach has been to buy one lens at a time and get the very best I can afford at the time. |
