I thought for sure that I had a great shot for Rusted, and its only sitting at a 5. Out of most of the photos I have shot for this website, this one is by far the best, and its already doing poorly. I just can not figure out what it is you all look for and want. So please, enlighten me.

What shot?
05/05/2004 12:53:23 AM · #3
I will not say right now. But it is far better than anything I have submitted thus far. I don't get it.

Me too I actualy thought Ill win, and I'm at 5 too. Well but you can't really tell anything about the first few votes. Keep hope alive.

May I join the 5 club? And here I liked my shot so much . . . Well, I STILL like it. So nyah!
05/05/2004 01:11:41 AM · #7
You can't, so just please yourself.
05/05/2004 01:13:44 AM · #8
You guys have a long wait--it's early. With over 400 entries, you might expect 200-330 votes or even more. That means you could have a 4 on your first 20 or more votes, and still finish with an 8.

Now, on the other hand, I am getting slammed in Abstract after 111 votes. There's still a lot of time for that to change as well.

I noticed in the few challenges I been in that the first votes tend to be verry ugly then if the shot is good it starts rizing slowly if not it keeps struggleing in the 4-5's. I think there are a few that thinks they have any effect if they give 1,2,3's to any shot hoping they would do better. And I imagine someone with a mind like that to start voting imediately at 12:00:01

i agree ... there are almost 45o pics to look at ... give people some time ... you are not going to give extreme scores for the first pictures you see

haha i do the bestest shots and i get like anywhere between 3 and 4 . *cries* naw not really...
i like my pics, theyre random, like the deaodrant battle one, and now the pennywhore one haha its called @_@ i think, and im guessing it will end up w about 3.5 at best
yea so dont please the masses, just take a pic u like

I'd be happy with a 5 at this point. I'm at 3.36 with 11 votes and NO COMMENTS! What's that about. How about some suggestions folks? If you are going to bother to rate someone's submission with a sub-5 score how about telling us why so we can do better in the future. LAZY!

I think we will all see this challenge progress a bit different. Over four hundred entries! going to be a ride to say the least:)

Don't be to engrossed in the the first day or so of voting; it jumps around so much. I checked first when I got home an hour after voting started; 11/6.12, but I did not get too excited. Another hour goes by and it is at 15/5.2.

I will say this though, I did not expect it to do very well at all, so when I saw that 6.12 I was a bit startled, but now that it is down in the range I am more use to the excitement is gone.

But now that I think of it, all of my entries so far have started very high (in the 6s) for the first hour, dropped low (in the lower 4s) by the second hour and then climbed steadily to a mid-point between the two after that. Maybe there is still hope after all. :D

I'm in exactly the same boat. I really liked this one. I'd really like to know why no-one else does :(

First time that I started off in the 4's I actually got a 7. Anytime I start in the 7's I end up in the 4's. C'mon ribbon :P

I'm at 3.4 and falling.. also commentless. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! ;) I liked my shot too, so I don't really care. It's just mildly annoying that the off-topic shots will probably do better than mine, lol.

I didn't have time this week to do anything to the photo I submitted and I read the only comment I got and realized that it is my screw up and not the actually shot. oh well. does the picture really have to have a title, and how much should the title count for the overall shot???

I couldn't think of a title that didn't have the challenge topic on it so I made one up really quick and I think my shot may score poorly because of it.

Well, I'm sitting at 4ish with my submission right now. I wasn't expecting much more though since I'm totally new to this.... Oh well, it's all about learning for me right now :)

I started at 5.2 something, came up to 5.9 something last night, and now I'm back down to 5.6. I have had 5 wonderful, positive comments, all telling me that my lighting, shadows, and coloring is great (which I am pleased with, because I really worked hard on this shot...I didn't just go take a picture of some rusty thing in a field somewhere). My score doesn't really reflect that. There's no way to please the masses, I'm afraid. I like it, I learned a lot doing it, and that's the important thing.

I was up to a 5.9 at one point too, but then I went down to nearly 5.6. Hopefully it's on the upswing again.
