These two didn't make the cut. I had fun finding rusted things this week. Lots and lots of rusted things in Oregon.

This was my second option for rust, but my camera is not very good so it blured in some parts :( , and my other rust photo was more clear

I'm paying the price for doing everything at the last possible moment...and naming different pics with very similar names...just realized that I uploaded the wrong pic for the rusted challenge. :-( Oh well, too late to do anything about it (and it's not like the one I wanted to submit was that much better - maybe half a point or so by my guess).

Not going to post the one I wanted to enter since it is of the same subject as my actual entry.

This is what I *should* have entered.

I'm at 3.00 right now with what I did enter, without a single comment. I guess people are having trouble seeing the rust... I went for style, thought this one was too boring. Well, at least I have a shot at the brown ribbon. ;)

Here is my other choice...Let me know what you think!
Justine, I like the coiled one!

Justine

The coiled "rope" is really a nice pic. I didn't enter either in the end - wasn't happy with my rusted options!

Hello Newbie here…

‘Rust’ was going to be my first challenge but wasn’t sure if this was actually rust. I’m pretty sure it is, however was wondering what you guys thought? Should I have entered it? TIA

Here are a few I didn't enter. Thumbs link to bigger versions

I had plenty of choice for this challenge (not always a good thing)
In the end, I was influenced by the fact that a few shots similar to what I was thinking of submitting appeared in the "Abstract" challenge..so I went with something very different from these...

This is what I didn't enter. I still don't know if I should have chosen this one over the one I did enter which isn't at all like this one.

these are the two I entered and then unsubmitted - how would they have done?

So much rust all in the same block....well the steps were a block away.

I don't think it would have done well. A bit abstract - the mosre on-target you can be with the cahllenge title the better, so if you are unsure it is rust that is not a good thing ;). Technically, blurry at the bottom corners.

The top one is crooked, not good.
the bottom one i like better, but both could have used better lighting. taking pics in bright sunshine is not the best as some things end up in dark shadow and others are overexposed.

Here's a couple outtakes that I had.

Yeah, that makes sense now that you say it, however at the time I didn't want to shoot the obvious either. Great site! Glad I found it. Now all I have to do is be happy with my camera and try not to get drawn in to the "upgrade" bug. I've already been to the local Ritz to check out the 300D... Thanks for the comment!

One I was going to enter but chose something else instead. I figured the high contrast would not go over well here.

Before I enter a challenge I find myself going back and forth concerning which photo to actually enter---this rust challenge was no different. I had several photos, and I liked them all in various ways...I found it very hard this time to make that final decision. My photo isn't scoring very well, and of course I wonder if I had made another choice would I be doing better...here are the other three I didn't enter, and all the photos are very different from each other....any comments would be appreciated...maybe I will learn something to make this process easier on me.

I like these! I didn't enter a closeup, though, because I was figuring that everyone else would! Oh well, I would still hang on to these, I think that they are really nice, they are crisp, and the composition on the first one is just wonderful!

I had a tough time deciding between my final entry and this one. I'm curious what first impressions are on this image:

The only thing I didn't do to it was completely fix the rotation which is slightly off. There was something about it I really liked - maybe the slight glare that came from shooting wet rust in the rain. Anyway, just curious what other thought of this one. It was also my "gunea pig" for learning about the unsharpen filter which has changed my life forever...

In all the excitement of getting my 1D Mk2 I forgot to enter my rust picture. I was so upset last night when I realized I missed the deadline. I had some good ones too.

I didn't really have time to shoot this Challenge- just this half-hearted attempt that I would have titled 'New Neighbor.' I don't think it would have done particularly well though, so I sat this one out.

On the other hand, I'm having a lot of fun with Abstract. Not quite ribbon-worthy, but I have a number of comments from people who think they know what the subject is or assume that I shot a painting, PS'd the color, or used some other illegal method. BZZZZT! You're all wrong. Thanks for playing! Bwa-ha-ha-ha!
