I don't really think so. I've been here a couple of years longer than you and fire and matches have already peaked. I hope. LOL. But...... if someone presents them in a new creative way... all bets are off.

Like say ribboning in a recent challenge?

It's a flash in the pan, LOL: the particular challenge was a perfect fit for matches and broken/smoking light bulbs...

Hmmm....I may just do a match shot for a challenge...to go with all the other things that have become passe on this site in the past....like water drops, portraits, orange backgrounds, frogs, animal life, sunsets, landscapes, water shots, old people!!!!

If I stopped photographing anything that has already been done on this site (in general)...there wouldn't be much left to play with. Please keep in mind that these images may only be seen for the first time by some up and coming photographers...therefore...these shots, not only do that bring fascination to some people...they also encourage others to step out of their comfort zone and try something that is 'new' to them.

So I say...bring on the match shots....or whatever shot becomes the flavour of the month...it has much to offer many people out there in more ways than one.

I agree with Judi - I think everyone is entitled to take a stab or 2 at popular-type images b/c you learn during that process, even if someone else beat you to the punch or came up with the idea or its been done a thousand times.

Good lord with your reasoning we shouldn't take photos of abandoned cars either since 2 of those ribboned. This is the craziest thing I've heard of.

You're Fired.

That would create quite a fuss for us to deal with ... so far we've only scratched the surface, but I'd expect a flame war to erupt should the incendiary rhetoric persist ....

I third that! A want a water drop challenge, because I want a reason to try it! If I tried it for a regular challenge, it wouldn't do well because everyone's so sick of it. But if there were actually a water drop challenge...

If there's ever a Matches challenge, I dare you to do a self portrait and call it "250 Matchheads."

I gave Irene's match a 3. That's a high score for a match shot from me. No wonder she ribboned!

I agree too!

After all, I can go on government welfare from time to time if I decide I don't want to work for my money, and it doesn't make my money any less valuable!!

Of course, it might open me up to criticism, but whatever, I can still buy a stereo.

And about a 16th of that phosphorus is radioactive.

Who said anything about not reproducing shots that you see? Who said that you shouldn't be allowed to take those shots or submit them? my only comment was that refering to the last time Irene did a stop motion thing she ended up wining a whole ton of ribbons with shots that prominently featured water drops as their primary subjects the first few of which were cool but then it got old, I was noting that she moved on to matches and that we might expect another flurry of ribbons and copycats as we saw with the water drops. Where does all this other stuff get dragged up from?

Because you didn't expand on what you had said to infer that it was the above reason that you were referring to. People cannot read minds....and many took it the way we did, so that in itself says that you didn't explain yourself to well in your opening post.
