Hello everyone, I have an opportunity to take photos during some area sporting events and the client has asked that I create copies of all the pictures for sale on a CD (for a fee). However I'm struggling with what type of CD duplicator, I'm guessing I will need to be able to create 10-15 CDs an hour and I probably won't have time to do any post processing.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Any points I should consider when purchasing?

Thanks in advance,
Ed

I used to work on and support Rimage products as part of my job but they may be overkill for what you are looking to do.

Depending on what you have available to you on locataion you might want to look into something like a CD Duplicator

If you don't have the money for the machine and you just want to use a standard desktop then I suggest you upgrade your IDE CD/DVD ROM for a SATA CD/DVD ROM and try plugging in a few more drives (the same model num) so you can burn multiple CD's at a time.

I'd check sites which sell pro audio equipment* ... I think I've seen some in the $1200-2000 range which can duplicate 25-100 discs without reloading, and some of them can print on the disc (if of the proper type) as well.

*Yeah, like the link to Discmakers in the previous post. :-)

I see they are even cheaper than I remember!

If this is a one time job and you don't have the budget for a duplicator, I expect you should have no trouble creating 10-15 CDs an hour if you have a decent PC with one or two CD-burners, and you first create an ISO image of the CD.

Then I would expect you could do one (or two with two drives) every three to four minutes with most good CD burning software. With Nero for example, you could just tell it you want 10 copies, and it will keep burning and ejecting until you're done. That's from an precreated ISO image, which is faster than if it has to gather the file information each time.)

Of course, you need to be there feeding it discs.

Remember you should be able to write off the cost of the duplicator against the income from selling the CDs as long as you are not trying to declare a loss, even if you're not running an official business.

Thanks for the info everyone I think I will end up with the CD duplicator form Disk Makers. A 4 or 7 tray model should work fine for my needs.
