I am debating whether to sell my Canon AH-X1 to purchase a Canon 5D Mark II. I'm curious if anyone here has one and whether the audio, in the HD camcorder mode, is decent. I don't do nearly as much video as I thought I would when I first purchased the camcorder. But I still do a lot of photography. Which is why I'm considering selling it. What audio related attachments can I purchase for the Mark II? Is there a microphone jack? Any thoughts/suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I wouldn't count on the built in mic for anything requiring high quality sound. There is a mic input. I asked about mic recommendations a while back and still haven't found much.

While the HD quality is impressive, the 5D2 is not a feature rich video camera. The ability to use your canaon lenses full frame is great, but the controls are there for still camera use, not video camera use.

For the occasional need to capture high quality video, it should be great. I don't think it will replace a proper video camera, much in the same way a video camera with an 8MP still capture feature won't replace a good digital still camera.

i think the biggest limitation on the 5D-II preventing it from eliminating the need for a camcorder would be the lack of continuous autofocus.

Russel, you were wondering if "anyone on here" has that camera - here is the list of owners for you to peruse.

As to what features it has, you might like to check out Canon's tour or even just the usual product page.

For sound try Vincents blog (he was the guys with the early 5D video from a copter - I'm sure you saw it but if not worth a look for sure)...
