April is approaching quickly, and April 26th is Worldwide Pinhole Day. In commemoration of that day, I'd like to hold another Pinhole/Zone Plate photography Side Challenge during the entire month. The rules are very simple, and few:

1. Lensless shots only please - use a pinhole, a zone plate, pinhole sieve, etc. anything but a lens on your camera to achieve your images.

2. No restrictions on editing or methods - film is just as good as digital, and any editing levels are fair game. Post it straight from the camera, or dress it up with an overlay, it's all your own choice.

3. There are no limits on how often you should post or how much, or that the images must be taken during April. If you can only do one a week, fine. If you want to post every day, knock yourself out. Post images pre-April that you haven't got around to processing yet? Go for it. It's up to you.

4. While I'll maintain a list of participants prior to the challenge's start, everyone of course is welcome at any time during the month to join in.

I'll begin an image posting thread for this side challenge on April 1st - er, no fooling.

Who would care to join me?

Oh, and don't forget all you Lensbaby users - they now have a pinhole/zone plateoptic available, so those with new-model LBs can participate too!

Okay, I'm back on my meds. I have a lot of material already, and can't seem to control myself. The pinhole is now the most portable and convenient "lens" I own!

In other news, I just finished Quaker-Cam 1 this weekend, so look for some non-digital stuff from me as well.

Thanks, Karen, for heading up this effort. Should be fun!

For the ignorant and/or uninitiated, what is the easiest way to be baptized in such a technique?

get a pinhole or zone plate body cap!

A very simple technique, consisting of a sheet of aluminum foil taped in place of the lens (duct tape works well). The pinhole is simply poked with a needle or pin. Aperture priority usually works for starters and a tripod is essential.

ahhh... were you a little gal icon before, and I was just blind to it? Well, welcome, glad to see you! Now if we can get 811.gif karmat to come over to the Dark Pinhole Side, we'll have a trio.

And I know there are other gals out there who might join, because I PM'ed them... ;)

Yes please Karen. I'm in.

Aaarrgghh I thought I'd got over my DPC addiction, I'll rejoin for this! Thanks for the PM Karen, you're an enabler you know :P

I'm in. I actually prefer my home-drilled body cap with the bit of aluminum can and electrical tape to the Lensbaby pinhole version. Somehow it's just vastly more fun to take pictures with no actual lens on the camera. No guarantee as to how often, though.

21.gif tvsometime's method would work - there's lots of "how to" stuff out there, just Google "make your own pinhole" or something similar and that should lead you to a few tutorials.

Does this mean you want in.....? :D
