I got the email yesterday that I've been accepted and invited to create my portfolio in the International section.

Now, had I applied I would be even more impressed.

Not sure if it is a scam, or someone who does have talent did not type in their email address correctly. From some of the images there, I don't think they are really wanting me.

I don't know anything about them. Have you tried researching them to find if they have a reputation for scam?

I don't see anything negative about them...
That's really weird!

I, too, have just been accepted...hmmm!

I was accepted too.

From their site and their grandiose descriptions, I'd *REALLY* want to see their fine print as to costs.

I'm not sure what they charge at photography-now.net. There seems to be a fair amount of registering to do, even after you are "accepted" before you get to the good part. (Good part = how much money)

Okay, are we talking .com or .net?
eta; nm, looked farther and see that .com is just listings of exibitions, etc.

from .net's about us:

HOW DOES IT WORK

Photography-Now is a non-profit Network run by a international group of photography enthusiasts and will not charge anything for publishing your artwork.
Publishing your portfolios at Photography-Now is free and your portfolio will be online for unlimited time.
However - our concept is to display all artwork with uncompromising aesthetic standards in the internet to an ever-growing worldwide audience. To avoid a chaotic look of our website because of individual portfolio design by members, we present all artwork only with the Portfolios specially created by GalleryBook Mediadesign for us.
The elegant and straight design of our websites keeps the viewer's attention on the work instead of an elaborate design.

Artist and Galleries can have links from there to their already existing own website if desired or integrate the GalleryBook portfolios in to their websites.

Supposedly free... So where's the catch?

You are probably going to have to pay the GalleryBook Media Design group a "small fee" to set up your portfolio.

If you go to their web page first, there is no blah-blah about accepting the worlds finest, or any of that. $50 per portfolio will get you up and running, over at photography-now.net. No wonder I was "accepted". Check my portfolio, I am no great talent and I do not pretend to be. Whenever anyone starts wanting accept my "recognized talent", I smell a rat.

I have been asked (from nowhere and for no obvious reason) to submit to the Art of Photography show in San Diego (I'm in the UK!) which is perhaps a slightly more obvious scam since they charge to enter...

Has anyone heard of Charlotte Cotton?

Yeah, they came after me too. And I'm a native of San Diego, so at first I thought someone I knew there had given them ny name... But upon further investigation it seems clear it's just a money-making "exhibition", nothing more. I've no doubt SOMEONE is gonna win a prize, but...

The Art of Photography show is legit. I have been to it the past three years. The currator before was Steven Churchill who ran the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park.
Charlotte Cotton is the Curator and Department head of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. //www.showstudio.com/contributors/269 She was a curator of photographs at the Vic and Albert museum in London before that. Entries are $10 each and you only have to produce a print if you are selected. You can see previous winners and exhibited images at the show link- definately some outstanding work. The show is held at the Lyceum Theater in Horton Plaza. I am in no way associated with it other than attending and submitting my own entries the last couple years. The San Diego County fair charges $16 an entry. They had winners from all over the world last year and they are published in a catalog besides being displayed at the show.

Fair enough - but in any event I'm really not going to be up to their standards then... I never even broke 6.5! ;o)
