So what's with all the people leaving lately and going on about the decline and attitudes etc?

To me in my short time here (so far), it seems like one of the far friendlier places to be on the web! You have your usual batch of idiots, but hell, you get those everywhere, and sure you have your arrogant and outspoken types, but where would the interest be without those?

I have no idea what it used to be like here in "the good old days" being a relative newbie, but if this is what people call bad then I can only imagine it was like an afternoon tea party with everyone being super nice to each other all the time!

I think it's a great site for learning, and a lot of people seem to have made some good friends too, but you gotta take it lightly sometimes! It's one style of photography, and it's one little bit of life! If this place is bringing you down, then you're spending WAY too much time here, and taking it all way too personally.

My advice, for what it's worth, if this place is getting to you, then turn off the computer, go out and take some shots that are in no way related to DPC and remind yourself that you're really a pretty good photographer and what the hell do the idiots know anyway! :)

Your advice is solid, for sure - more time spent taking photographs and less being petty on the forums is better for anyone, I'd say.

"The good old days" weren't as golden as some would make them sound, but there has been a definite shift in the attitude of DPC. Lately there has been a lot more petty infighting over off-topic issues, and there seem to be more users who take up personal conflicts with each other that they just will not let go of. Whereas there used to be a more relaxed atmosphere, there is now a more noticeable strain of tension most of the time.

Overall it is a friendly place and still has a wealth of information that members are only too willing to share. But it's also an addicting place, and people do spend way too much time on here, and many do start to take it all way too personally. I suppose that's one of the downsides of hanging out with a very artistic crowd :-)

Odyssey, you allude to the biggest difference I've noticed and that is that it seems like it used to be if you argued with someone in rant, it didn't carry over to the equipment thread. Or if you posted an opinion in "business of photography" and someone disagreed, that disagreement didn't carry out of that thread.

Now, it seems that we have a few personalities that just wanna rumble whenever they see eachother.

And, I do agree that this is one of the more friendly forums. I was reading through the forums at chess.com. I figured a bunch of chess fans were bound to be a bit more classy than your general internet interest group. Whoa. Was I wrong. I went through a couple of different threads, but in all but maybe one of them, people were calling eachother idiots, stupid, morons and the like. They could be discussing a chess game for three or four posts then they would resort to name calling for 15.

The other most "unfriendly" forum I've found was weight watchers. Daggone. People just seem to like to hide behind the anonymity of the monitor. At least I hope they aren't like that in real life. :(

There have been a few outspoken people of late who seem to think that they can dictate their attitudes and project their expectations on the rest of us regarding how we utilize OUR $25 that we spent on membership, not to mention making continued demands on the site owners for changes to suit them.

And then they get annoyed when things don't go their way.......8>)

This is a terrific place, I love it, and there are quite a few stellar people here that make it worth so much more than the paltry membership fee in help and camaraderie.

Good advice.

Personally, I get a big laugh when someone makes a big splash with a "I hate all you people or If this doesn't happen immediatly I'll quit or I know more about photography then any of you" kind of thread. Then two weeks later you see them posting in the forums like nothing happened.

And while it is tempting to point those people out right here......I won't. I'll just say there have been two lately.

Ego is a wonderful thing, but I've found it far better to laugh at it instead of taking it seriously in any way, shape or form.

I found myself in the trap early on of getting too worked up about people's silliness, but now, nah. Not worth it, so I'm happier and more carefree.

Yes, I used to be on there a lot. Those people get *cranky* -- and the political threads were viscious. It used to crack me up that people criticized each other for being fat! It's like people on DPC criticizing each other for being amateurs. ;-)

The gender is specific to the word in Spanish, NOT the person using it.

Life in Spanish is a feminine word......hence locA

(I've been trying to learn it for years with varying degrees of failure!)

I seem to recall someone named Rose back in the "good 'ol days"...ask SC if they want to invite her back.

Then there was that whole Rikki episode...

Give it some time, you'll see.

When your time comes I would like to see how you react to the site. I bet you can't eat your own words...

Just wait and give it some time.

Sheesh Joe, quit trying to drive folks away! :P

This place is a pain in the butt at times. You take a good shot and it gets slammed, you take a mediocre shot, it scores well??

Everyone is too opinionated, they all think their Canikolympentax is better than yours, they speak in funny accents and make stupid dumbass comments like, 'great', 'sharp', 'OOF' etc.

But, that's what makes this insane place so addictive:)

If you don't like it, take the advice of Shakespeare:

'Exit Stage Left, pursued by a Bear!!

Hoho! Made a funny there! Pursued by a Bear_Music!!

I've said it before: I would pay an extra $25 a year for a user-block feature: their posts become invisible to me without having to resort to a complete thread-ignore.

If given a limit of, say, ten such blocks, I would have nine left over!

and, no, K10DGuy, you are not blockable... yet. But I got my eye on you, there, chopper!

Mine's free! I just program my brain to put [ignore][/ignore] around comments that get me upset, IF I allow myself to get upset that is.

I like that Pentax is the only one with the full word. BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST.

I don't believe in pursuit of Pentax owners, they are an endangered species, just like we bears...
