Sadly, I only have 4M pixels to play with, and I hadn't got up to speed on how to take/edit raw when this was taken.
And, well, it is a bit out of focus.

Still, we live and learn. And when I get my DSLR..........

Your image was soft--and not purposefully soft. That is the kiss of death, IMHO, on DPC. Your subjects and perspective was very interesting, other than a little tighter crop, I'd love to see it done again.

P.S. Pixels aren't everything. Mine was a 2004 JPG, I didn't learn about RAW for another month.

Would have gotten a 10 from me! ROFL!

I, too, want to gripe about my score. This scored entirely too high. My gosh, people, it's a snapshot! C'mon! What were you thinking??

Apparently I'm not the only one shocked by my exceedingly high score:

P.S. Per requests (lots of 'em), I did go back and add the names of the snapshotees, with a lot of help from Sander Admiraal. If I have anyone wrong, or someone knows the one person in the first row I can't identify, please let me know.

Complete aside: I feel really sad no pictures of me are in your DPCers folder, snif....

As for the DPC-pyramid image, I felt it was perhaps the most in the immediate spirit of this challenge of all the entries, and scored it accordingly.

I can fix that. I used to have some, and a lot more of the Münster GTG, but did a massive cleanout at one point before we got the Portfolio - Extended Edition. I shall re-upload some this weekend.

A little surprised with my score considering the great comments, but happy to be in the top third.

I guess it didn't meet the challenge.

It doesn't look like a photograph of real objects as a still life, it looks like a photograph of a painting or a 2D collage. I couldn't find a rule that specific prohibits that but many people may have thought that a straight-on shot of something along those lines isn't really a "photograph," it's just a digital representation of the collage/painting.

This has nothing to do with my entry, but I'm shocked that this one got a 1, a 2 and a handful of 3s. I'm sure those scores are statistically insignificant, but how could anybody score this image so low?

Honestly, I think my shot is the most appealing and technically best of the three. Any explanations?

I immediately thought when I seen this one that the detail in the splash, shadows in the milk rising up wasn't showing as in previous ones which I really liked. Duplicates don't bother me at all. Hope this helps. Great portfolio btw.

This is my entry now to grant it wasnt edited brilliantly but surely the pure idea is worth more then 4.9480

it was my first entry etc but personally i still find it a tad better then that (ive complelty changed it since due to comments though very helpful comments i have to say!)

Duplicates do bother me but that aside, Oliver's technicals are superior to the others in terms of the lighting and clarity. However, for something like this, the bigger the splash the better and his was just too small to have a strong impact with voters.

That's a shame, because I have never taken this kind of photo so it would be exciting for me, but not the viewer. I guess at the end of the day we take photos for ourselves; the scores don't really matter and the comments can be nice.

Right, where's that bucket of water?

I love that shot. I just looked at your comments and out of 84 comments only a couple of them seemed negative. So don't forget that most people loved it! And 6.46 is a great score.

No real gripes, except that my son Isaac beat me out again (though only by a couple of places this time) -- my entry got a lot of "good" comments to go with the (expected) low score.

Better not to bring that subject up here on DP Challenge. ;)

The original is long lost."

Why not? I have nothing to hide. I took that shot. The jpeg I do still have has all it's original exif data intact. It's not the original that came straight out of the camera but is a direct saved version of that. That's original enough isn't it? I was under the impression that still counts as an original. I can also provide a link to the forum where I posted the image in my thread. If that's not enough proof then ...OK..well.... DQ the image then. It fared miserably anyway in the challenge and I was quite disappointed.

No. You're supposed to complain about your 2 1's and say you thought it was better than it scored. Then question the collective intelligence of the voters and the quality of the equipment they have dared view your perfect picture on.

Get with the programme; all voters are idiots.

:-D

Yes it seems this is the motto of this thread. Many people think that whatever they submit shall be hanged in museum. Anything less than what they thought of their work is sin on voters part.

Somebody complains about 2-3 1s he got but fails to mention that his same 'whatever' image got 2 10s too.

I just wonder why do we have voting scale less than 4.

Jeez, Deb, introduce him to me! Maybe he could help me find happiness. Though I don't recall feeling exceptionally glum that day, many viewers had many takes on my shot.

Final score:5.099 50 comments during voting

Breakdown: 1s - 4
2s - 7
3s - 34
4s - 86
