So, when does one decide to pull an image from the challenge? I worked hard to meet the topic description but still got one comment (not from you) that the person thinks light was coming from something other than the subject. Now I know this isn't true, but I obviously didn't portray it well or there would be no doubt. My score right now is 4.3 (it started at a 3.8 so at least it's climbing) but if I realize the picture is going to bomb should I ask to have it removed? [/quote

I could be wrong but I have a feeling that pulling a pic counts the same as a DQ so don't pull it, but dont take my word for it.

If you want an opinion you are more then welcomne to PM me, I promise I have voted this challenge and am not changing any of my scores.

It hurt me to do it, too, since some were really good images.
On the other hand, I gave out many more 10's, 9's, and 8's than I usually do because there are some REALLY, REALLY good images entered into this challenge, IMO.

You may: "request removal of your own entry during the voting period IF none of your last 25 entries were disqualified or removed, and no rules were violated".

I hope your one comment isn't mine LOL (if it is, pm me). But why should you pull your image. Lots of images in this contest are misunderstood, mine included. I agree that there are many where the light source is not the main subject, but is used to reflect it's light upon another subject.
I've learned in these kind of contests that you should tell the voters exactly what your subject is in the title. Seems to me that any bit of abstraction is killed immediately.

And still my entry meets the rules by the book and I like what I did. The important thing is that you like what you did, so don't let the voters upset you. Most of the time I don't even like the winning photos.

Don't pull the photo. In my opinion you'd be better off letting the challenge run its course and then asking what advuce people can offer on the photo. If you pull it a lot of information will be lost, like oting patterns, comments etc which would be useful for others to give guidance. Just because your work hasn't scored highly and you've had a negative comment, it doesn't mean it's bad. My favourite image of the 1000th challenge finished 700th or so but it was great.

Thanks for the advice and you're right. I had asked about the rules and haven't followed through with having it pulled because I decided there's really not much point to that.
Anyone who wants to give me comments when the challenge is over, I'd appreciate it but I know this one wasn't really that good. You'll see what I mean.

Penny

Start a thread at some point after rollover int he forums so that people are highlighted to it and will then go and give comments. I will often comment a photo then as I know the person really wants the feedback.

Recovered soemwhat from the start. I think the early voters had seen too many of the Gems, and voted hard by comparison........Most people seem to have climbed dramatically from day 1
