Go pinch your co-worker for not wearing green. Go to the local pub after work and enjoy some green beer. What's that? Not Irish - well then be green with envy. lol

Now to go find me a leprechaun >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> where did he go??

I wanted to wear a button that says Pog Mahone at work, but my boss found out that it means "Kiss my arse" in anglicized Irish Gaelic and said no way! lol

I dont get why everyone goes head over heels on St Patricks day.. even in England they go stupid about it. Whats to celebrate?
03/17/2009 03:25:08 AM · #7
i find it funny how 99% of celebratants have no ties to Ireland whatsoever.

We had some people coming today with shamrocks painted on their cheeks and shouting "Happy St Patricks Day!"

One was German, the other two were American.

Tez, I hoped you mocked them for being the fools they were.

I wonder the same about Thanksgiving holiday. It is all in what you appreciate about the day, the history of it, and perhaps your heritage. I myself am English, Irish, and German. No offense to the German or English, but I take more pride in my Irish heritage - a country with a people who have had to fight constantly for their freedom and independence. A country with well deserved pride, they have not become arrogant and full of themselves. St. Patrick came from Rome at a time that the Irish were seriously being oppressed by the Brits. He ran out the snakes that had over run the land, and the Brits (hmm, perhaps the Brits were snakes too). So yeah, some of us go "head over heals". Besides it is a fun frolicking good time to share with your friends. Unwind and enjoy life today, whether you're Irish or not.

I think it's a very good day for the American Irish to think on the phenomenon of terrorism and where the IRA got most of its cash from.

Any celebration in which beer is involved is a good celebration. St. Patrick's day = beer.
I'm not German but I love Oktoberfest too... reason? beer.
Payday = beer... all good days...

For us Aussies I think there's a love of the Irish larrikin, and that irresistible accent that gets us going. I think we're quite similar as cultures, or is it just the convict stock?! I took my kids to the local Irish pub for an Irish stew tonight - ridiculous really, there's no irishmen here whatsoever and I live in a city in sub tropical Australia - but the feeling was great. There was an Irish Pipe Band playing, lots of fun and carrying on, but sadly no Irish accents to soothe my ears. I'm still looking for that perfect Irish guy.....anyone seen "PS I Love You"? There's a large group of girls in Australia who want one just like that, me included ;-)

Which means 260 million don't.
