If the posted photos are those that inspire you, its no wonder that so many 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's are given in the challenges.

Perhaps posting examples of what you consider inspiring, instead of being negative, would be a better path to follow?

This thread is about sharing one's inspirations, and I for one would try my best not to let it be hijacked. Please refrain from turning it into a hate thread.

Others: please continue sharing your inspirations:-)

Dang, Bear. You deserve your own thread, let alone a few entries here & there!

Personally, I didn't think that was a negative comment. I thought his point was, these "inspirational" images are for the most part so far outside the DPC-plastic mainstream of relatively soulless but technically flawless images that it offers a striking perspective on just why our highest-scoring images often receive their relative handful of low votes. And I agree.

I've read this 4 times, and I'm still scratching my head. Sorry.

And, BTW, I wasn't fishing (with my earlier post) for someone to *call* my images "inspirational", because (to be brutally honest with myself) I don't think they *are* for the most part. I don't really think there's any image I've ever posted that can hold a candle to the best of these "inspirational" shots, which are operating at a higher level than I typically even attempt :-)

I think of myself as a technician, mostly, and a bit of a clown, often, and I don't expect to be taken seriously as a producer of deep, thought-provoking images.

I've been hesitating to post images here, mainly because limiting to 5 is tough, but also there are individually inspirational images, and there are inspirational photographers. There is, of course, some overlap there, but not 100% alignment.

Bear, whenever I see your name on the front page as having just posted to a thread, I go there immediately, sir. I know with certainty that I will be rewarded in some way by reading your words.

Bald jokes notwithstanding. :-)

And you do have inspiring images, too....

Yah, there's another, parallel thread for that, and THAT one I get a couple mentions in. Which was sort of my point; I was pokin' fun at myself, not looking for affirmation or anything. But thanks for the kind words :-)

Bear, Chromeydome,

I wanted to avoid having people name the names (the best (everyone else), the worst (me;-), etc.), and thats why I titled the thread as '5 most inspirations pics' and not '5 inspirational photographers'.

If we wait, perhaps the thread will make a full circle and one of everyone's images will shine here... in a few months.

IMO, everyone has a niche area in photography, and the purpose here is for people to share what pictures inspire them to pick the camera up on a cold freezing day or a hot burning noon or a pouring evening and go out and shoot.

Let more deserving pics join this thread please:-)

I'd be interested to see how these photographs or photographers inspired you guys and to what depth. Inspiration can be a very rich subject or thin if it's a favorites theme underneath.

For example if I said nixter's work inspired me...

and here was the result of his inspiration...

Or since I posted a zeuszen image previously...

(I have non-Lennon version which I like better but not in my folder)
I believe Zeus' image encouraged me to shoot a dark moody scene and as I look at the light cloud hovering in his image, paired with the musical title, a pairing of my own was rendered. On a more interesting note, these connections happened in my subconscious because I certainly didn't set out to do this shot or pp it they way it appears but I know I was tuning into his image around that time.

I think this grigrigirl tilt actually set me off on a spree...

If this makes sense could anyone post some follow-ups that illustrate an inspirational connection?

I don't think of inspiring shots quite that way.
I find the ones that inspire me most, are the ones that wake me up, make me want to create, to think, and trust my eye.
But I do think it is cool that someone can inspire you in the way you described.

It was interesting when I read the thread title how my mind went to people or images that inspired or encouraged me to do things that went against the grain or try to be more original in my thinking and yes, trusting my eye.

We all get inspired in different ways. Not everyone gets inspired to go out and create similarly themed photographs on an individual basis, but it's certainly an interesting individual take on the subject.

I've only ever had it happen once, and only for a specific challenge topic. Too lazy to look up the numbers right now, but it was for the latest mirrors challenge, where Coley's shot in the first one inspired me to try and recreate a similar one.

Mais oui, M. le Seau. We would be better off with your generation's heroes. Air Supply and Hall & Oates. Formidable!

Without question one of the most arresting animal pictures I've ever seen.

An incredible capture of a look, only enhanced by it being a self-portrait.

This makes me freakin' weep every time I stumble across it in my favorites.....

This just evokes terror in me for these kids.....an incredible portrayal

For me, absolutely THE "Sail off into the golden sunset" image of all time.

These last two are the most real.....this first one just blew me away, especially after exchanging some notes back and forth with the photog.

I had a lot of friends who lost their comrades in Vietnam, and heard way too many stories of the end of life in the senselessness of war. This image just knocked me for a loop, big time, and to find out that this was from the imagination, empathy, and creativity of a man half my age with such insight truly did inspire me, got me a mentor, a damn good one at that, and we remain great friends three years later. I am pleased that he now sees me as a competent photog, which is as much of a reflection on the inspiration, and impact that he had on me, as it is my skills.

This guy DEFINITELY inspired me in the genre of choice for me!

I have always liked and admired his work, and I'd like to think that I could someday get as good as he at the enhancing of the old stuff that I like so much to shoot.

I know we weren't necessarily supposed to talk about the photogs, but it was BECAUSE of these images that these guys shot, their attitudes and willingness to help an annoying newcomer that truly made these two inspirational to me when I was most in need and impressionable. There are/were many others who have helped me and given much of themselves to me in the way of encouragement & help......Melethia & Bear being two who know me well, and still like me in spite of that.....but these two fellows have the dubious honor of being the most inspiring for me.
