recently my sister-in-law was here for a visit, she saw my "single tree" entry and COULD NOT GET WHAT IT WAS....I am just curious...did you get what it was.....

This is a Cellular Tower, they have several of these in the state of Florida...our politicians think it is more "eco friendly" to make them look like trees....plain ugly is what I call it...oh and the kicker is - there was a "lumber-jack" in the tree at the time it was taken...by accident...(you couldn't see him from the ground at all...it wasn't until I edited the photo that I saw him)

was just curious if you understood what it was....or not...I did it as a joke...but after my husband and I were just talking that my sister-in-law didn't get it....we thought maybe you too didn't really get it...

Without reading any further to influence me, it looks like telephone pole made into a Christmas tree.

Added: Didn't notice the person hanging off of it. And I guess a cellular tower is still a telephone pole. Of sorts.

There is one on my way to work - not as large as this, but with branches and more 'foliage'; from a distance it is pretty realistic, and even driving right past it every day, some people at work hadn't ever noticed it(although I suspect that says more about them...).
I shall have to get a photo of it next week and add it here.

So it's not just an American thing is it?

The only reason these don't look like real trees is that we are used to seeing real trees that look different. I think if the cell companies want to be allowed to put these fake trees up to disguise their antennas, they should be required to install vast forests of similar looking "trees" across the landscape so we get programmed into thinking this is what trees should look like. Then they won't stand out as unusual.

Every time we take an ambulance to Dartmouth Hitchcock we pass one of these things in Vermont. Ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Here in Phoenix they are decorated to look like palm trees. In my opinion they do not look like palm tress but better than a plain cell tower.

Don't expect me to head that way anytime soon. I try not to do the long distance transfers anymore. Sorry.
