That, plus it is an excellent song by Peter Gabriel accompanied by the late Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan

I've also heard it used in context to the relevance of what someone was saying.....I.E........His signal to noise ratio is way off when he starts yammering on about sports.

For whatever reason, and why, I'll never know why Jeb was already taken as a username, so in exasperation, and frustration, I just tagged my camera in front of it, and now I am sort of stuck with this silly moniker.

And I can never switch equipment! LOL!!!

Initials, nothing hard about that. The hardest thing would be guessing what the "D" stands for.

Back when I was doing recording studio engineering, we decided to call it "smoke to noise ratio". I still use that term sometimes when I start up a new piece of equipment.

I like to ski...

It's also been my alias on every site I've practically ever joined and my longest lasting e-mail address (now mostly has just spam).

The logic behind my username is a highly classified secret. Its need-to-know kinda stuff. ;)

Sometime long ago in a medieval gaming world I frequented I needed to name a character with something that sounded vaguely, well, medieval. For some reason Chalice seemed to fit the role of the character and I've used it ever since. Sometimes I have to dress it up with numbers because it is used frequently by others on the internet.

Good thread, by the way.

Shutterpug - representative of my love for photography (shutter) and pugs. I have actually considered changing it form time to time as I also love my schnauzers, and other various critters. I also love being a medic and considered AKMedic (AK=alaska, medic self explanatory) But I feel by now many know me so well as ShutterPug that I might as well keep it, at least for now.

'bout 11yrs ago when I first moved to Finland (lived there for about 3 yrs), there was a joke thing going around the ex-pat network. It started, you know you've lived in Finland too long when.... And then the rest of the sentence was completed by something silly and usually to do with local habits/culture.

A few of my friends and I tried to add some new ones. I said, I know I've lived in Finland too long when I start liking Salmiakki! Somehow, despite detesting the substance, I sort of love the word and it has stuck. I have been using this user name in various places for around 11 yrs now.

I think I *may* have cracked your code :o)

Mine comes from way back, one of the many parties (after a beer or two) a few or us were messing around and one guys alter ego came out as being fearless elbow!! It was then decided that mine should be King Bobonacus .... I've kinda used it a lot ever since!!

My mom told me that back when I was a little child I would pronounce my name as "Timfy Too". I used timfytoo as a username for quite a while in other places. Several years back I started playing Age of Mythology online and needed a username. I decided that instead of timfytoo I would go with something that felt more appropriate for the game. Hence Timfy the Too - it had more of a feel along the lines of Attila the Hun or Alexander the Great.

And it is not timmythefoo - that just sounds silly. ;)

I come from New Zealand, and we call aouselves Kiwis. I think it comes from the first world war when the Australians where known as the Ausies, the Brits where the Poms, the French where the Frogs, Germans the Krauts Americans the Yanks etc.
Anyway Kiwi was my user name on a couple of other places & when I wanted to register here, it wasn't available, so I thought I am A Kiwi & that was free. Since then I have updated my name on other sites.
