A number of people have mentioned that no one responds or acknowledges their comments. I appreciate people's comments, and would like to thank them, but it's inconvenient. As far as I can tell, you must click on the author's name to go to their profile, and then click on their personal message link. Even with that, it doesn't give you the option to quote their message, so they'll have no idea which comment you're talking about (since they don't know the picture was yours to begin with).

I would love a "respond to comment" button that automatically quotes the comment and addresses it to the commenter. It would be so much easier!

I agree. Great idea! :-)

Some people (not me) have a problem with responding to comments during a challenge. I suspect some argument of this idea will follow. Their objection is that it may be seen as an effort to get someone to upgrade vote. I usually either copy and paste their comment back to them, or tell them which entry the comment was on. Sometimes it does not really matter which entry it was, and I am just thanking them for the effort to leave comments.

I like the idea of the single button rsponse but would agree the comments back to a voter should happen only after voting ends.

Or it could be a "form letter" response during voting, switching to a text entry box once voting is over.

Which is unnecessarily complicated and redundant, but I haven't had any coffee yet.

So just enable it on comment boxes that aren't green.

To me just checking the box that says the comment was helpful is good for me to know they appreciated my effort and that I appreciate theirs to. For me it is way to much to write to every commenter.

I have read where some people are angry about comments so giving them some option that will help them tell the commenter how angry they are wont be good in my opinion. To me I think checking the box is good. I know when I make a comment and someone checks the box that it was helpful I feel good about it.

I think you may be missing the point. Noone is saying that you need to "write to every commenter", actually it would probably be used infrequently. However, it would be VERY useful when you'd like to respond (I do that frequently as a "Thanks"). One click direct instead of going to their profile and finding the private message link.

The little "Helpful" checkbox isn't going anywhere - it's still available.

That's what I'm hoping. I'm just surprised at the number of posts that have mentioned how few people respond to comments. I also had a PM that said the same thing. I'd have no problem responding if it was easier. I know it would be easier for some people to get bashed--but it also might help those people who have made many, many comments without much thanks. (I've only been here a short time, so I don't have an opinion from that side of things...)
