I followed the rules, too. But,where was the rule you read prohibiting placing reference info in the title? The entries would not make sense out of the context of the Brown Ribbon ...to which they are paying homage. Check out the previous Brown Ribbon Deja Vu. //www.dpchallenge.com/challenge_results.php?CHALLENGE_ID=820

I didn't say that there was anything WRONG with putting that info in the title, it just appears that some people are not voting if the info isn't there. That's just dissapointing to me since there was no rule that said it needed to be there. I didn't look at the previous brown ribbon challenge before I shot. I didn't think I needed to. I simply shot my photo and entered the challenge based on the rules presented to me, just like I always do. I can see why people like a reference to the original shot, but it shouldn't hurt anyone's score if it's not there, since it wasn't required.

We haven't yet required people to look at prior challenges as part of the "rules".

Would putting something in your title to help out the voters be smart? IMO, yes, but NOT required.

Precedent is clear. More importantly, voting and commenting in this challenge is a lot of fun for the 80% of the images which contained reference info in their titles. Those without reference can be voted on as stand alone FreeStudy type images, but lack context. This is not a Free Study challenge, after all. I did discover the Brown Ribbon source for two images without reference info, but it was just a lucky random find.

Did you look at the thread that had thumbnails of previous brown ribbons? I can pick out most of the entries just looking at that. The inspiration for my entry is immediately obvious if you reference that thread.

That's worth a try and a fair alternative. I'd like to spot some context that way. Thanks!

FWIW, having the title/challenge in the title doesn't help for score or comments. :P

How so? The last time this challenge ran there wasn't anything in the rules for titling an entry either.

Additionally, NOWHERE does any rule, description, etc, say that someone entering a challenge MUST look to the previous running of the challenge for some vague hints at additional unwritten rules.

LOL! Free will is in play. No one is mandating anything. Coupled with common sense and a review of what worked last time .... can make any challenge run more smoothly. Experimentation might be a good thing.

Aii-yii-yii! This is what I get for defending someone else's POV. FTR, personally I find it helpful in this challenge when a ref to the orig Brown is in the title. I was just sticking up for those that didn't figure that out for whatever reason.

Carry on. :-)

I am actually checking all the images in the challenge contrary to what I said i would do and I am finding it a very time consuming exercise especially when checking some titles and finding that there is no such challenge or title at all. I have now checked , voted and commented on 54 images and this has taken me more then 3 hours so far.

Huh? You think 3 minutes an image to check original, vote, and comment is slow? A lot of folks would think 3 mins/image is about right just to view, vote, and comment...

Just as well. I'm out of the running now with only 3 of a kind (lost the full house). :-)

It won't happen! Which is okay with me. I'll be rooting for you. I need to get back to taking shots that I enjoy.

Problem with this game is there ain't no flushes, so I am making a local rule:

42135 would be a straight, but 54321 (or 12345) would be a straight flush.

Based on my new local rule, I had a straight flush for a while: 6.5432... Unfortunately it was gone by the time I saw this thread, but I did remark on it to myself :-) Only 3 possible "hands" could beat this one: 9.8765, 8.7654, and 7.6543...
