Some great side effects of a Tetanus vaccination:

* Fussiness (up to 1 in 3)
* Vomiting (around 1 in 50)
* Crying nonstop for 3 hours or more (1 in 1,000)
* Seizures (1 in 14,000)
Very Rare:
* Long-term seizures, coma, lowered consciousness, permanent brain damage (extremely rare and not proven to have been caused by the vaccine)

Humor asside, Tetanus is very serious especialy for the young and the elderly, so if you feel you are at risk, talk to your doctor about getting a vaccination.

Clostridium tetani bacterium lives in the soil (usualy contaminated by feaces), its spore can enter your body through any kind of wound, but they germinates mostly in deep wounds where there is little oxygen (punchure wounds etc.. thats why steping on nails is bad) Once the bacillus vegitates, it starts producing a protein toxin called tetanospasmin, which blocks neurotransimiter release.

You wont get tetanus by just touching rusty object, but you should exersise care when there is a risk of injury, and it not just limited to rusty objects.

Here is some epidemiology info for those who are interested:

tetanus was my favorite roman emperor. he would have been famous for good things if they didn't name that ringing in the ears thing for him. oh yeah, and theres no "a" in elderly.

Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) is a common problem, affecting about 17% of the general population around the world (44 million people in the USA).

I beliave you are talking about Titus, who gained reputation (during his two year reign) for clemency and generosity. It was during his reign that Pompeii and Herculaneum we consumed by the eruption of the Vesuvius.

Got my shot when I was in the hospital having my son. I had gotten bitten by a ferret the week before so they gave me one to be safe. Good for 8 more years :)

Yeah, ferret's don't brush, so it is common to find them with rusty braces. ooh, now my Rusty entry has been exposed to all (there is a pun in there somewhere, did you find it?) LOL

That's terrible. Were you trying to get a picture of the ferret when it bit you?

a tetanus shot for being bit by a ferret? whats next, a proctological exam for a toothache?
oh perhaps ferrets are ferrous? contain iron, rust when wet- I know one thing- you can't really de-stink a ferret- no matter what they say.
