And just this morning I was going to have the administration validate my shot because I had a feeling I would get a DQ request! I feel special! For once my shot really made people look!

Deannda
Yeah! :)

Same thing happened to me a couple of challenges ago. It feels good to get a DQ request when you know you took the picture legaly.

Congratulations! There are (quite a few) times when I wish I would get one of the dreaded DQ requests ... :)))

Good for you Deannda. ;)

Congratulations! Doesn't it feel good? I just got my first one for Serendipity and almost had to go out and celebrate. Louise

I recieved a request for validation yesterday morning for my second challenge entry in 'Where you live'. I think it's great that someone took the time to look at it long enough to have questions about it. I have not been validated, but am not worried; I don't know enough about PS to cheat. :)

I just wish I knew why the request was made. Just a matter of curiosity. Really, I promise not to keep doing the same thing in every photo just to get more DQ requests -- Really! :D (was that convincing?)

It does, my husband came in the door and I practically jumped out of my chair saying, "I GOT A DQ REQUEST!"

He didn't understand my excitment, but I knew you guys would :)

Deannda
Double checked the dates on my camera too, LOL

Oh crap, I better look. :(

I know the date on my camera is right! Of course I won't be needing it with my 4.3

I am very happy with my photo despite the score.

ooo- me too! I just got one. I feel "special" as this is my first one. My brain did go a bit dead as I tried to recall what steps I took (honestly never thought to record because the shot looks pretty simple to do! -- and it was)

LMAO and knee slappin!!!!
Too funny!
I dont feel like I should be ashame for I was quite excited too, when I was DQ on my picture that ended up last place in windows challenge...

AND I have been validated! Double WOOOOHOOOOO! :)

Deannda
That feels really good
04/29/2004 02:41:02 PM · #14
Hmm, is this typical for your experiences when being validated? I had 5 comments by 60 (or so) votes, but then I recieved the request for validation. The photo has been validated, but now with twice as many votes I am still sitting at 5 comments. Does validation kill commenting? Do the voters look at the validation and think I have recieved all the feedback I need from that?

What is your experience on this?

WOO HOOO -- been validated as well! I'm new at this, too, David so I'm not sure about the ramifications. I'd note that my score was quite a bit higher before the notice went on the shot that it's been validated (I can only assume it's on there because I've seen it on other shots) I haven't gotten any comment since either.

I`ve been a member since last November and have had DQ requests on my submissions in three challenges.
Judging from most peoples reactions (in this thread), I must have the wrong attitude..because I was angry that anybody could think I had cheated.
The last DQ request was for "Holding up the world" in the "Strength" challenge and I could not work out why anybody thought it unachievable without manipulation....funnily enough, after it was validated the score started to plummet..don`t know why that should be ????
Hope this doesn`t happen to you folks !!

Gordon -- never thought of it that way (but I do see your point -- maybe I'll be mad by the end of the day!! LOL)

Thanks for confirming what I'm noticing... I never predicted that my shot for this challenge would trigger a DQ request (actually I never thought any of mine would! but during Serendipity people inferred it and I think a "validation" stamp would have helped) After the challenge I'm going to ask the members at large why they think I got a request and what effect they think the notice has on future voters.

I know exactly why mine was requested for a DQ, I was going to submit it myself for validation but I ran out of time yesterday morning.

This shot may be my personal best before it's done

Such good news! Glad you had the chance to "defend" it early in the challenge so anyone with doubts but not the desire to put in the request can vote just on the merits of the shot... I'll be checking your entry when the challenge ends...

I got a DQ request on my where you live submissionas well. The first day of voting. I was less pleased with it all. I knew my shot was legit but wanted to know why it was requested for DQ. I mean what's up with that? If it pertains to our shot why can;t we have that info. I dont want to know thw who more than the why.
Regardless, I didnt have to wait long to get a validation, which is nice but now i have this red statemetn saying that it has been validated.

We can't tell people why a DQ is requested, because that gives them the chance to cover it up.

For example, we had a spate of photos DQ'd for not being taken within the challenge dates. If our note to you says "someone thinks they saw your photo on siteXYZ.com last month, it would be stupid to give the photographer a chance to remove it if they are cheating. If they are not cheating, the DQ request will be rejected.

A DQ request does not say that you cheated. It says the person who requests it can't figure out any way to do it themselves without cheating. If your photo is, in fact, legitimate, then they will have learned something, which is, after all, the primary stated purpose of this site.
04/29/2004 05:18:32 PM · #23
Okay, I guess that makes sense but why say where they saw it & just say that it is suspected of being taken outside of the submission dates. Maybe I am jsut ignorant of all the things one could do it change exif info, if at all possible, but wouldn't that info prove or disprove the DQ request.

Regardless of the answer, I whole heartedly defer to the admins & SC.

There are IMO two main reasons why we don't pass the DQ request details on to the photographer - firstly, DQ requests need to be anonymous, and some requests contain usernames etc. Secondly, being non-specific means that cheaters won't be able to fake the criteria that we are primarily investigating. For more info, please read my The DQ Process: A Voter's Guide thread.

That's fair enough comment - but howabout, just to quells ones own curiosity, a little note issued once it's been validated why it's validity has been called into question? It's not a very regular occurence, and it does add a little excitement to ones evening.
