Ok this my sounds like a silly question but ive not long bought a Canon 580EXII and I go through the batteries like crazy...what batteries do you find last longer as i find im forever having to change them as I haven't got all day for the pilot light to come back on.

What type of battery are you currently using?

I've been using Sanyo Eneloops with decent results.

the folks over at strobist recommend Ni-MH rechargeables. something like this. Or better yet, this. Get 2 sets and keep one charged. It takes about 1 hour to charge 4. Hope this helps.

whenever i go for a gig i take at least 4 sets of rechargables (ranging from 2300-2800mAh) and a set of duracell's just in case. good thing is that i can use the AA's not only for my flashes (SB-24) but also for my camera body.
i had good experiences with ansmannn 2700mAh, but my favorites are panasonic ones.
i might also want to look into eneloops soon as conventional rechargables tend to loose some percentage of their capacity after a while.

I bought a 12 pack of 2600 mah rechargable ones from eBay for like 12 GBP. They work great. I also carry a 12 pack of Duracell M3s i picked up from a local store just in case they die (which isnt likely but could happen).

I have 3 flash units I take on location and they have lasted through a 3 hour session on 1/4-1/2 power.
