I am debating whether to pick up the grip or not. I keep going back and forth on it.

As of right now, IN STOCK! Hurry if you want it. Same place I got mine.

One Call is a highly reputable dealer. I've purchased multiple electronic items from them and have had nothing but good customer service. Just a plug.

Good luck on the battery. I have one one on order at my local camera store for $80.

I believe the 5DII battery is new and that it hasn't quite made it into the retail pipeline yet. You see it advertised all over the place but listed as "Not in Stock". One place I saw said they expected delivery by Feb 14.

I was curious what you paid for the 16 Gig Extreme IV memory card? I have a 16 Gig Extreme III and another one on order. Prices on cards varies a lot.

Ah damn, y'all are making me itchy... but no, I promised myself Id wait for price drop on this one. I think I'll be waiting a while. Besides, I just pulled the trigger on a lightly used 400/5.6 :-)

I got the memory card from B&H for $191.95, I just made the 1/31/09 dead line on the rebate. The battery isn't a problem, when they get them in stock I'll grab one. I wonder if Canon will come out with a dual charger for that battery? It will be a pain to charge them one at a time. I guess I'll have to buy another single charger. Its just one thing after another ;-)

Go ahead and pump it up to 6400. I have been shooting there and the results are amazing!

I have to say I am disappointed in the ISO results. not the best , esp for advertising

Could you expand on this a tad...it might help those of us sitting on the fence as it were.

i think you're the first one i've heard say that. people are raving about the clean image quality up to 6400 ISO and even higher! maybe you got a bum unit?
02/05/2009 02:03:20 PM · #67
I've found it exceptionally clean up to 1600. 3200 is decent, but will need NoiseNinja, etc. I don't bother shooting higher than that, unless it's a "light emergency". I have been unimpressed with ISO >3200. In general, I rarely shoot over 400 as I always use a tripod for my landscapes and macros. For available light portraits I'll go as high as 1600. By comparison, I've used the 40D and 5D, and, to my eye and satisfaction, I've gained a 1-1.5 stops.

Here is a low light example taken at f/2.0 with ISO 800. Shot RAW. No additional noise reduction done in camera or PP. I know it's not a 100% crop, but take it FWIW.

I haven't got out on serious photo safaris yet with mine but my preliminary home testing leads me to agree with AlexSaberi. I'm hoping that the new 64-bit version of NeatImage for PS CS4 will help with fine art images printed large scale for wall hangings.

What is large scale printing? Bigger than 16x20?

Lets see if the order goes thru :)
