The lens hood on my 10.5mm DX Fisheye was restricting the full optical capability on my full frame D700. So i decided to part it off on my lathe Machining the fisheye lens. Ya, that's sketch balls!

I built a plastic jig to hold it in place during the machining. In retrospect I should have used aluminum because the holding contact lost grip twice during machining and the lens started wobbling; that could have been disastrous. I had to retighten it twice, but the operation was quite successful.

So is this lens worth more? or less? that it did last week...

I'll give ya 8 dollars for it as is. And you won't have to worry about that funky looking guy being in the frame any more.....

Dude... that's crazy! Great end-result though.
Not sure if it's worth more or less, but I'm sure you'd get a lot of people asking for the same customization.

Throw it up on a blog with a price for the service. You never know!

ps. remind me never to lend you a lens ;O)

why didn't you just un-thread/remove the hood ? it appears you are cleaning the threads with an exacto knife toward the end there...

i would have covered the glass with something - painters tape maybe - just in case of stray flying bits.

i want some of what you smoke !

sick, dude! i've read about people having done that and was actually thinking about doing that myself with my 10.5 but haven't had the guts nor the technology to do that yet...
what kind of saw/whatever was that you were using to remove the hood? looks really sophisticated...

im confused why nikon would make a lense that did that. unless it was designed for a crop body (Does nikon make efs equilvant lenses???)

I didn't think that was necessary; any flying bits were plastic, and therefore infinitely softer than the glass (or even coating)
