A Single Tree I

Nearly all the top 50 were over 6 so a high scoring challenge ....

My shot in the first single tree challenge became my personal best for a while and I hated it. I was very glad when it dropped off my front page.

My favorite single tree (it is just one). How or why this did so well, I'll never understand.

How are we supposed to know if a tree is single??? See if it has a "ring"!!! :)

That's because the challenge was in 2006 when people still knew that 7,8,9 and 10 still existed!

I had a single tree shot for the Ansel Adams challenge. Time to replace that entry, and re-shoot my single tree. :)

Better modify your EXIF too and hope they don't catch you at it :-)

My first thought when I saw this challenge was that someone would make a play on "single" and have a tree on match.com or something. Fair warning, I'll find ya and slap ya if ya do! ;-)

I've got a great shot, I think, for this challenge. However, I shot it last month. I'd like to go duplicate it, but the weather is not cooperating. Nothing but sunshine and blue skies. Not a cloud to be seen for the past 3 days. I need clouds!!

Hmmmm, do we think shots with others trees in, tiny and in the background perhaps, will get DNMCed? If they're not the subject and incidental.

To me it said make a single tree the "main" subject. Not the only subject. So as long as a tree dominates the shot its the main subject to me. :=)

I hope not. I take it to mean that the subject is a single tree.

I'd like to see someone shoot the classic aspen forest shot with one tree in focus and the other thirty or so blurred in the background!

My shot from Single Tree I that I posted earlier in this thread has other trees in it but they are way in the background.

Too many trees? (This is not elgible for the challenge for a couple of reasons- first it is a pano of three images and second it was taken outside the challenge dates).
"Take a photo where a single tree is the main subject". My actual entry will be nothing like this of course- this is just here for discussion purposes.

This is what I get for taking down the Christmas tree on time, lol.

Hehe I had that idea too. I bet somebody gets their tree out again, decorates it and submits it.

I would imagine this would be OK, the single tree is the main subject, the other ones are background elements. Mind you, while it certainly meets challenge, there's bound to be some voters out there who take the "there's more than one tree, there should only be one tree, you have too many trees, DMNC", type attitude. What can you do!

Hunt them down and kill them? j/k

I have been trying to do shots a bit different from the usual DPC stuff lately (colorful sunsets over water- even though I live in a beach area) but I do still follow the idea of "When in doubt, crop it out" and don't stray too far from the catetory. You still need to know your audience and don't give them an excuse to not like what you are trying to do. This one has the potential to be boring to vote on (although there were a lot of interesting shots in the first one) so I hope to try to stand out a little bit. We shall see what the voters think.

Yeah, I was going to say that this was some nearly 2.5 years ago now and the entries from Single Tree I certainly wouldn't hold up in today's DPC.
