Fortunetly, I JUST got my Class A drivers license. I can drive a tractor and trailor, air breaks, truck.

I don't want to be a truck driver, but, SAG is forcing me to be flexable.

SAG + economey + mom doesn't work = scary.

Get a Class B with passenger and school bus endorsement. There are ALWAYS openings driving school buses.

My former manager (pre-last-big-company-reorg), my current senior manager, and another senior manager I worked with quite often, all just got the axe today (along with many other folks). For our current round of "resource actions," they targeted middle-management pretty hard; though I must say their selection of who specifically got the axe looks pretty random and without concern of the implications.

We've been told to "get our affairs in order," so I might be getting our outstanding package of 2-weeks-per-year-of-employment soon myself.

The President was speaking in my city (Elkhart, IN) last week. We apparently have the highest unemployment in the country at 15%. But as I said earlier in this thread, this area is primarily RV industry, so who is REALLY surprised by this? Still sad to see all these people out of work and struggling.

Alaska had been staying stable, but is finally starting to feel the crunch too. I am fortunate right now to have a full time job as an xray tech. There have been lay offs at our hospital recently, but our department is already at the bare minimum, and with a couple people under me in the seniority list, I should be safe.
I also work part time as an EMT 2, so if all else fails I would have that as a small income. We do not get paid much, and this year there was no increase in the pay scale, but at least we know we'll always be needed.

I feel for each of you that are out of work, and running out of money. As long as you are here at DPC though, you will never run out of friends.

I hate to be the only guy who is in a good position, but, right now anyway, my company is doing great. Pardon the pun but the healthcare company I work for is the healthiest in the nation. I just got my yearly review and a 4% raise and we are told we are still on track for our yearly $2000 bonus. Of course now that I have said that I'll probably get fired tomorrow.......

I sold 100 less yearbooks this year at school. I am thinking that it is all because of the media created fear that has extended this economic downturn. We need an earthquake or something so the news has something else to report about and investors can start to get some confidence back.

I was laid off from my auto parts manufacturing job December 23 (37% jobs cut in the plant). Other manufacturing plants in the local area aren't hiring, local and state governments are cutting back. I'm exploring opportunities for retraining, and relocation isn't out of the question. Monthly expenses exceed monthly income, so savings is getting depleted.

my parents are trying to sell our house, but im not sure why. they say its cause we need to downsize, but they've been giving that crap for ten years. so why pick now to sell? they've done so many renovations, in a normal market they could get $800ish, rifght now i doubt they would get $400. its the wrong timing, and they are idiots to even list it now. its so frustrating to me.

Maybe you'll have more peace by thinking of the $800 market as the abnormal one and the $400 market as the normal one.

That is one really significant drop in price and seemingly runs counter to what is shown here Real Estate Drop in Home Prices

Good luck to both you and your parents.

Aaaauuugh. . . I just ache for the job losses and the scary job situations. I've been there, done that too, and it was one of the hardest times in our life. I'm saying lots of prayers for you guys that are out of work. That is is short lived, and that things turn around very quickly.
