Me and my (ex) friend (more so my friend) almost fell for something like this early last year. We were trying to find an apartment on craigslist and we found a great one in our area that was really cheap. We emailed him and he said the he was living in western africa with his family and just wanted to have someone live there and take care of everything for him while they were away. I got very suspicious at that point but my friened kept pushing for us to email him but I told her if he asked for any kind of wire money that I would stop. We kept emailing back and forth and he used bad spelling and religion to try to get us more involved. I decided to (safely) play along and gave him a fake address when he asked for it. Then he said he was sending the keys over and he needed us to send him the money now. I finally told him that I had just been stringing him along in order to waste his time so he couldn't scam others while he was trying to scam me and my friend. I also told him to *bleep* himself with a wooden stick and told him that if he believed in all that religious crap he was spewing, he was surely going to hell...and a few other choice words. Never heard back from him and I notified craigslist and the real owners of the apartment. I'm glad I handled the emails because my (ex)friend was never entirely convinced it was a scam.

i'm not too worried about being tried for extortion. and i find it kind of funny that the criminals would go to the authorities.... i'll let you know if i am extradicted to nigeria...

I wonder if this is a hack into the accounts. I didnt read thru the thread but can one of the mods confirm whether our account info is safe please?

My email came from DPC Prints and the email that was a part of the message was from aishau33@hotmail.com

Rooster, what is the User ID?

It's not a hack into the accounts; it is a user who keep signing up under duplicate usernames.

I'm not sure actually. Just came from DPCPrints from aisha.

yeah - i thought about that - but then again - i'm obviously only part nigerian - and felt it inappropriate for me to mock their language.... ;)

instead of doing the usual spam reply game. and seeing as they didn't actually have my real email ( sent thru PM system - unless the site has been majorly hacked )... i thought why not send a spam of my own to the spammer. i used a yahoo email i don't really care about.

so here it is. maybe i CAN get rich from a nigerian scam ?

Wooo! I finally got my letter from FROM MEL AISHA FATIMA. I was worried that I wasn't worthy of her millions.

I am thinking about sending a donation to them, just so they can buy a caps-lock key.

The people *want* to believe. Every con works the same way. The victim has to want to believe it's real.

I had an employee come to me one day. She told me about a friend of hers who had gotten this letter, and had been sending money for a year. He'd sent about $300k, mortgaged his house, and his wife was about to leave him and take the kids. She wanted to know if it was real or a scam. It made me very sad to hear this. I didn't realize that otherwise intelligent people could fall for this either.

It only takes one sucker to make months of sending these emails to be worthwhile.

My father-in-law received a postal 419 scam from Spain
letter from a barrister (poor ink jet color letter head)
"inheritance from someone with the same last name" yada yada yada ..

i can't imagine the amount of postage someone would send out to try to hook the gullible ...

This is so coincidental - I just refreshed one of my news websites, and this story was posted on Sky News as 'breaking news' about ten minutes ago!

Postie Hit In Mega-Money Web Scam

A British postie has been left struggling with debt and depression after losing £130,000 to an internet scam involving Nigerian fraudsters.

Shane Symington, of Portsmouth, Hampshire, made friends with an American woman calling herself Angela Gates on the MySpace website in spring 2007. The pair got along famously for several weeks until she starting asking the 32-year-old for cash to pay for her mother's funeral and medical expenses.
...etc...

That guy sounds like he's addicted to sending money to Nigerian scammers;

But his son said his father kept clandestinely wiring money to the Nigerians at least until last fall.

Guy Gottschalk said that when he confronted his father in October, Louis Gottschalk said, “Don’t worry, everything will be all right on Thursday because I will be getting $20 million.”

The son said his father also told him he’d get the money this time because these were “different Nigerians.”

... unbelievable
