I know one of you wizards can help me here. I have a Wii and I want to connect it to the internet. I have a wireless router. My question is, is there some separate device that I need to buy for the Wii or is it ready for the internet when you purchase it?

It is ready to go wireless right out of the box. You do need to set it up with your router but wont need to purchase any extra gear.

it's ready - wireless capable - right out of the box.

you'll have to configure it to 'see' the router - and authenticate the connection.

simple if you're wireless router isn't running any security. simply enter the name of your network and the Wii will find it. you might not even need to enter the network name - it may find it on its' own.

if the router is running WEP, WAP.. etc. security. you'll need to create a key with the router admin page to enter into the Wii - under the connection settings.

if it's a netgear router try opening your browser - and navigate to this URL
//routerlogin.net/

to see what security settings are enabled - and to generate a security key. if you generate a key = one thing i found is that the box where the generated key is located doesn't show the entire key - it's truncated by one or two characters. you have to highlight and scroll right in the text box to see that last couple characters. fwiw - that silly little glitch caused me an hours worth of frustration ... :)

We just got a Wii last week. My daughter loves it! Now we just need two more controllers (for a total of four).

Question...We have a Wii and so does my daughter. We're trying to play Mario Cart with each other. We can both play worldwide or regional but can't seem to play each other in a room.
We both get on, create a room and it says waiting for a friend. We can see their Mii's but then we get an error code 86420 and then we can't connect. It doesn't matter which one of us creates the room, it happens either way. Any suggestions?

Google

Sounds like it may be a firewall problem.
Good luck.
