I didn't create this side challenge, but would love to have someone with your photographic skills participating. I think it's still open to anyone who would like to participate.

Once I go over initially being floored, I thought that's about the nicest thing anyone's said to me in a while.

I'll do my best to uphold your opinion of my work!

Thanx!!!

I think your shot is not a link to a portfolio image! May be you ll have to correct this small problem.

Okay.....I've got two here.....and the explanation....

I live in south-central Pennsylvania, in a rural, hilly area that is surrounded by natural beauty everywhere in a quiet, subtle way. It seems very ordinary until you look a little closer, and then you realize what an exquisite place this is to live.

These are my two favorite trees in the whole world. I went after them almost immediately after getting my digital camera two and a half years ago and have been watching and shooting them ever since.

I like the idea put forth by Bear_Music to shoot the same 'scape for the entire time span as the seasons change the scene.

These trees, and the lake and cornfield where they live, are about a mile apart, and just down the mountain from where I have my home. So in order to go to work, or the grocery store, I have to drive by one, or both of these trees pretty much every day.

Those of you who don't live somewhere that this phenomenon happens will be in for a treat from both of us......it's part of what makes me look like I have any kind of talent.....the subject material.....if I didn't live somewhere beautiful, I'd be SOL as a photog!

So here are my two for January.....enjoy!

Ok here is my January submission (finally!)

Got up really early to try and catch the sunrise. This is at Mt. Loretta Ponds in Kananaskis country near Calgary, Alberta.

Since today is the last day of the month, do I still have time to participate on this side challenge?
01/31/2009 09:37:50 AM · #91
OK, here's my January post. I hope you all don't mind, but I am going to post one from the current month - 1, so as not to conflict with my usual monthly free study (especially during winter, when I am lucky to take one landscape a month).

I will try and find some time tomorrow to go through the current ones and comment. BTW - feel free to be honest and critical with mine.

Me, again...should we not be including our PP steps in the shot and a few details? And "what are the editing" rules? Are these along the "basic", "advanced"...or "whatever you want to do?" Sorry I've never done a side challenge before...

Originally posted by darnok:

I think it would be best to limit the challenge to "advanced" editing (I feel it should be a photography side challenge and not a Photoshop one). It would be good if everyone could post editing details and other information relevant to their image - equipment used, location (maybe even GPS coordinates so people can look the location up on Google Earth), time of day, etc... Side challenges are about learning.

Where is everyone's PP notes...no one seems to be entering them...or any other information...I am trying to learn from what ya'll do in your PP notes...when they are left out I am guessing (and getting better at it...) but, it would be helpful to know what lens, and just basic information...

I guess it makes sense to stick to the 720 px limit of the advanced rule set.

Agree...

Decided to make it up to 800x800.

Can you please put these 2 items...in the "rules" area...

Thanks...I really like to see those notes...they really help me to see what can be done to a photo...I am very new to this....

Hey Landscape photographers. This thread may be interesting to you if you're planning your shoots on the sun's position...

Where does the sun rise?
