Oops, sorry folks, busy week. This is my week 2. Not much editing actually--just touched a couple of hot spots, and sharpened. Prepared for 11x14 mounted printing (with the border).

Here's what I got out of my 3rd image. I'm not sure which treatment I like best, so I'll throw all the ones I like up here.

Edit: The thumbnails sure look similar, but they aren't.

Edit: My week picture was a fruit "bowl", several asked about that.

This is an example of why it's better to let sleeping dogs lie. I kinda wanted to bring out the texture of the roots and the water, and maybe create some depth to this photo, but in the end, there's no structure to it, no composition to speak of, and no real interest, and no amount of editing is going to change that.

In fact, my edit, I think, made the scene even flatter than it was to begin with. No depth added at all. I'm kind of at a loss as to how to get any from this shot - I suspect it's simply not possible.

No comments are required on this - just wanted to share that sometimes hidden gems aren't really gems, should stay hidden, and I really need to delete more. :-)

And here is my Week 3 submission. As I noted in the remarks, this is from my visit to Bear_Music and one of my first attempts with the 10-22 (the crack that Robert turned me onto - dastardly man stuck that thing on my camera and there was no turning back. Except he made me buy my own and give his back.)

Week 03

Took these shots a few years ago, when I had just recently gotten into photography (about a year into the hobby). These were taken on a fishing trip with friends. We drove near Algonquin Park in Ontario, went down an abandoned logging road, and drove for a further 45 minutes. Stopped at the side of a non-descript road, dragged a canoe for another mile, and then canoed to an island in the middle of a lake, which was in the middle of nowhere. We caught no fish the entire weekend, but this has now become one of a dozen great shots from the weekend.

My Week 3 shot -- with very little editing ... in light of the current status of the financial crisis, I couldn't resist the perfectly descriptive title ... ;-)

I had some fun with this gem of yours. I hope you don't mind

Never hide, and never delete. A moment captured, beautiful or not, should always be preserved.

At least, thats what I go by, and I have the DVD backup stack to prove it. :)

This is my original for this week. Anyone want to give it a shot? I'd be happy to send a hi rez .jpeg or raw file if you'd like. I'll probably try some drastic edit on it. I really want to draw attention to the bird diving into the water.

Moving a bit south from my previous 2 photos:

Bascially, I plan to enhance the texture and colors of the rocks as those are the most impressive aspects of these cliffs in Gay Head, Martha's Vineyard

Weeks 3 & 4...landscapes shot in 2007.

I wanted to do what Neil suggested by opening up "Frontier" a bit, so I worked on it this evening and am really pleased with the results. Also did a color version...a really bright color version. By the way, these were shot in the the GSMNP.

Week 3 for me.

This image was taken in 2003 on my G2. It took pretty good pictures for a compact. I wish it still worked!

Feel free to REALLY tell me what you think of my editing decisions; and what you might have done differently. That's what I'm here for!

Before (almost as captured)

After
