This is the official posting thread, so please read this before you start posting.

January 2009 Side Challenge: Portraits

Recap

- It's never too late to join - just let me know you want in!
- Image formatted to a standard ratio for common printing (like 4x6,5x7,8x10). This is not a hard & fast rule.
- 1-3 people/shot as the subject (can be different people in each shot)
- Self portraits ok
- Try for one entry every day but do what you can - no pressure
- Try to comment on 5 entries above you minimum to keep things moving but not to make things too difficult. The commenting is one of the best parts of these challenges
- Any editing you like (including textures, multiple images, etc.) - This isn't a contest
- Pictures to be taken beginning 1/1 (or very close to it)
- Themes are welcome! For example: clowns, skiers, kids, drama, self, candids, street, etc. just let us know!
- C&C is the method here. If you are commenting, be constructive and not personal. If you are the photographer, be able to accept a critique for what it is and not take it personally.
- It is best if you can post your images in your DPC portfolio. It is easier to view and comment on the image, resulting in more of both.
- In the interest of learning and teaching, please take the time to post your camera settings, put some comments about your own image as well as post processing details. This will help give insight into the process and story behind each image.

Have fun, learn something, teach something, and share comments. This is where it is at for me. We could do our own separate projects, but doing it together makes it more enjoyable.

Thanks for all of the feedback on this - I think that it focused on the dog and not my husband ;) I am really looking forward to this month. I am a little apprehensive in leaving comments since I don't have any portrait taking experience but will try my best not to come off like a complete doofus!

Would you guys mind posting your camera settings and lighting arrangements? :) It makes it a LOT easier to make suggestions for improvements. :) Otherwise, the commenter has to guess and, I don't know about everyone else, but that makes me feel a bit lost when doing C&C.
