In fact, I think I'll be selling a couple lenses after the first of the year because I just don't use them.

If anyone's interested in a Canon 70-200 f4 or a Tamron 28-75 f2.8, just PM me.

I've used it maybe a dozen times in the 2 years I've had it.

Sounds like me... I have such a hard time justifying using a zoom when I have sharp primes in my bag. In my case, my primes are sharper than the 2.8L zooms from Canon. My 70-200 2.8L IS is probably the lens I used the least. I did however use the 16-35 2.8L a lot but only for work purposes.

I bought a 24-105 f4L IS a couple of days ago and will use it as an outdoors walk around when it's not practical to bring more than one lens. Other than that it will be just primes. This is only personal preference of course.

i hear you - if i had the cash - i'd have a range of L primes myself. but with a little compromise you can get a bit more bang for the buck with NICE zooms...

what is a "prime" lens?

A lens that does not zoom. I.e. just 50mm and not for example 18-55mm

ETA: Your 100mm 2.8 is a prime lens while your 70-200 2.8 IS is a zoom. As an experiment try to set the 70-200 to 100mm and do some tests at various apertures between these two lenses. If your lenses are like mine, you will see that the much cheaper 100mm is sharper.

I was like that when I had a zoom, but when I got my D700 (and sold my D70 kit) I couldn't afford any lenses at the time so all I had was my 50mm f/1.8. I got so used to using it on it's own that when it came time to buy a new lens, I opted for the 105mm f/2.8 macro rather than a zoom! Now I'm thinking all I need to add to that is a wide angle prime and perhaps a long tele zoom since it's a bit harder to get closer or further with wildlife without disturbing it!

- Giant Lowepro backpack
- Small walk-around side bag
- 8gig memory stick
- 5 in 1 reflectors

I went to B&H on Tuesday and out of the 6 things I wanted to buy, only 1 was in stock. Guess I'll have to go back after the holiday chaos dies down!

Thanks!

I'm stoked about this site, it's really gonna push me to learn finally. I entered my first challenge in the "window shopping" and it's rather addicting to refresh my score, does that wear off in time or am I doomed?
