Hi,

I have really old image of my girlfriends Great Grandparents which i said i would try to restore so that she could give it to her Grandma for Christmas. When she gave me the image i knew i was well beyond my photoshop skills to make it look any better.

I don't really like asking for help on a forum where i am not an active member but i suppose lurking for a while helps :)

I have been trying in Photoshop with the Clone Stamp Tool but my efforts fall short of the quality that i would like to produce.

Many thanks to anyone who wishes to give this project a go.

Chris

Certainly not beyond the skills of a lot of people here, however I daresay if you could of scanned it in at a higher resolution then it will reprint far better once fixed up.

It is clearly possible, and as ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Simms states, you want to either get a high resolution scan or take a photograph of the image. I have found that you can often do better work with a photograph than a scan from a cheap scanner. Your D40 should work fine for this if the image is lit well

Here is one example of some work I did to show what can be accomplished:
Before:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/65000-69999/67152/120/616701.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/65000-69999/67152/120/616701.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
After
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/65000-69999/67152/120/616702.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/65000-69999/67152/120/616702.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Thank you for your reply. I have two other copies of this scan.

Does Photobucket resize images when you upload them as the images are 2354 x 1512 on my PC?

Sorry, forgot to mention. That is amazing work you did on that image!!

does that include the white space around the image though? If the actual image itself were that size then that would be great.

You're right, it is cutting it close, but thats just how i am. I'm the guy you'll see walking around the shopping centre on Christmas Eve!!!

Anything that anyone can do with this image will be much appreciated by myself (and also my better half) ;)

i could have done better with a higher res photo....but...oh well, merry christmas. hopefully you get somebody on here to give you what you want.
12/21/2008 11:20:04 AM · #14
I understand that this task would have been made easier with a higher res photo but you can't only work with what you've been given ;)

I really appreciate what you have done, it would have taken me a few days to have come up with anything like that, thanks again. Like you said i will wait to see if anyone come up with anything else.

Far from it, your effort was more than good enough. The reply i got from the g/f mum was something along the lines of "Wow, that is much better" but if there is someone else who can do even better then feel free to give it a go.

I didn't mean anything like that. There are people on here who are just simply amazing. I was hoping they would give it a try. that is all

' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', '/') + 1) . ' CKing This is the best i could do with the very small files you provided. As ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' egamble stated, we could do a lot more with a higher resolution file - but that poor guys face needed a complete reconstruction - his mouth is now missing!

Like has been said previously, I have left this very last minute and appreciate the time and effort you have both put in helping someone who you dont even know.

I will print both images and use the one that looks the best.

Let it be said that whichever image i use, you can be sure it will make someone very happy on Christmas morning :)

Now, i just need to start taking some photos with the camera i bought about 6 months ago and begin entering some challenges on this site.

Bassbone,

I used your pic in the end, printed at 4x6 and put in a gold frame and my girlfriends grandma was over the moon with it.

Many thanks for your help!!!!
