Create a system where a member can check mark another members profile as a friend.

Have a notice available when that friend is online.

Have the ability to click on the notice to create a tab.

Use the tabs of multiple friends to chat.

the first baby step would be to introduced an indicator of whether the member is online/offline beside their nickname. this could be useful especially in the forums

interesting! i alwawys thought it's grey or blue because of my browser setting (u know, visited or not-visited links) but not obvious enough! i was thinking along the line of a green/red circle (like an LED) beside the name, or maybe a halo above the member icon :)

I'm pretty sure they are gray if they are a registered user, and blue when they are a member.

The coloration of who is online/offline, plus other sites, and firefox gave me the idea.

It seems there is a lot of comradeship here @ DPC, why not have a chat feature?
