For some reason this has been bugging me all day.

When they drain out all the oil in one sea pod thing, shouldn't they fill it up with something else as wouldn't it collapse if it was just a big empty hole?????

Probably the most random questions I have asked myself in years.

What are yours.

What is the smallest region needed to cover a curve that is one unit in length?

well I couldnt think of the real name for it, it is a thingy under the sea and they stick an oil rig thingy on it and suck it all up and then there is a hole.

How clear was that? ummmm off to drink the gin!

An oil reserve thing under the sea

Oh...an oil rig? I was thinking some sort of vegetable or something.... yes please pass the gin!
Good question what does happen.

I mean wouldn't it collapse if there was nothing in the hole. Empty space that once did have stuff in it now has none, I would have thought that even on dry land or in the sea it would collapse under the pressure.

Is the whole world going to collapse in on its self???

Stolen from Yahoo Answers:

When it's extracted oil does not leave "space underground" as you are thinking of it because oil is not found in large underground caverns of vast open space, rather it is found in the inter-granular spaces in sedimentary rocks (that means it exists in-between the grains making up the rock). These spaces are quite small individually (just like sand on a beach) but taken as a whole they can hold vast quantities of liquid (water aquifers work the same way). Think of the reserves as rigid underground sponges and you've got the idea. When oil is extracted, the space can be left empty or more frequently is filled by water pressing in behind the oil. So there really aren't large voids left behind to form sinkholes.
Sinkholes form by a completely different process in areas which have underground Karst topography - areas of buried limestone caves. When these caves get close to the surface (i.e. become exposed by erosion) then sinkholes can develop as the soil on the surface collapses into the cave below ground.

If the vacuous liberal thinking so prevalent here at DPC continues unabated, then yes, it will.

Ah, yes, the mother worm blanket question. I believe the answer is a circular disk of unit radius, having a total area of 3.141. (By coming up with this answer- I proved I can use Google- although I did remember the mother worm blanket question part- I just had no clue as to the actual answer).

I think that's true if you keep an endpoint fixed. Supposing the curve can be moved, than a much smaller area will suffice. 0.239 is believed to be the smallest area, but it hasn't been proved.

If we ignore the comment can we avoid this thread being moved to rant?

Microwaves "excite" those little electrons, make the whizz around like mad, and therefore heat the food.

Why can't I have an "anti-microwave" device that instantly freezes stuff by making the electrons slow down just as quickly?

If harmonics were used in outer space, finding the exact opposite frequency of the harmonics within "string theory", will the cancellation create a man made manufactured worm hole?

If so, who will be the first to explore the hole in space?

AND, will the technology be kept a secret?

time is constant, but according to several theories, time is also relative.
to cut things short (please do your own homework on relativity), i do believe that time travel is possible.
now, that being said, i think hitler isnt dead. he was claimed to have disappeared.
and i do suspect he had perfected, or partially perfected time travel during his nazi rule, and has sent himself into the future, where his master plan of ethnic cleansing could be more easily fulfilled with modern technology.

Oh My God!

I have been talking about this for years. Microfreeze(TM)

Instantly chill your beverage, Mr Freezies(for impatient kids), and make ice cubes.

Instead of slowing down the electrons, I am working on just reversing the polarity:)hehehe.

My wife thinks I am crazy!
