I just wanted to let people know that the storm last night and this morning damaged my computer and other items around the house. I was able to get my computer up and running but it will freeze and shutdown about every 5 min. It don't recognize the DVD, nor can I do anything with heavy graphics like Photoshop. It freezes in bios most of the time and when I am able to get into windows I get this message that says "your system has recovered from a critical error".

I wanted to let everyone know that I will be back as soon as I can get things straight. It may take a few weeks or longer.

If you want to participate in the FSM you can still PM me since my email is not held on my computer. I will update the FSM as soon as I can get this issue resolved.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Maybe for Christmas you could ask Santa for a REAL computer instead of using the Fisher Price cool school one you have now.

I think I took a picture of your computer while I was over there one day..Ahh yes here it is..

Check out the CPU fan, sounds like it might not be spinning. That would account for it freezing up after 5 minutes or so, particularly if you're using Photoshop with it being so CPU intensive.

If you're lucky that'll be the cause and it'll be a cheap repair.

Well a little good news. I have my computer running longer by riding all programs except basically my browser and having only minimum processes running. However I have no color and a lot of other issues. It goes to the repair shop (local) Monday. If this was caused by lightening (which it was) then my insurance will replace it.

So for the weekend between I have a computer between shutdowns, even though the screen kind of looks monochrome.

You didn't have it plugged directly into the wall outlet, did you? :-(

I have it plugged into a "Computer Surge Protector" along with my monitor, printer, router, and cable modem. However everything seems fine except the computer and I think the printer. The reason I say printer is since this happened my printer will not respond. And the printer is a HP8180 which cost approximately $500 when I purchased it at the first of the year.
