Win a lensbaby.

Just saw this and wanted to share. Maybe one of us can win. However, it would be after the side challenge.

Can I be a "maybe"?

I'll give a few a whirl. Had fun doing the Blur Side Challenge, so gluing on the Lensbaby will be a fun zone for a while.

Ahh...there we go. Just dusted it off for a quick pic of the Wolfcat. Looking forward to this.

eta:Two from way back, that I like, where I believe I drew some meaning or purpose out of the blur.

I'm trying so hard not to sign up, because I'm not good at the discipline required for side challenges, but this one is so tempting. I haven't used my lensbaby for ages. Definitely time to give it a workout.

Just shoot and add something whenever you can. I assume it's about the fun and the quality of the image and not the frequency. Go for it.

Well I guess it is a new year coming. Maybe that's a good time to make a commitment and actually stick to it beyond the first few days. And my lensbaby really does need the exercise. So count me in.

I'm certainly not the arbiter of the rules but the side Challenges tend to get tedious when folks shoot just to keep up, like it's an obligation to fulfill. Image quality suffers greatly, commenting becomes a complete drag and the learning experience becomes a washout.

My cat pic posted above would be a prime example of a blah filler shot because in my mind the affect holds no meaning.

Well this is one of those filler shots, too. I just put the lens on for the first time. And since it's like a blizzard outside and only 1°, I took some shots of some Lego figures laying around. Just to see how this thing will work.

Figuring out the focus is really going to be fun.

2-3 years ago I had the original lensbaby, but it didn't work for me.

Now I purchased a composer just 5 minutes ago, seeing the technique of the lens is far better. If everything is allright, I'll get it before newyear.

In short: I'm in! :D

From RKT's original post:

Only rule here will be that your shot must be made with a LB...that's it. You don't have to post everyday, or comment on everything...let's keep it fun.

So are you IN, or what? 28 intrepid Lensbaby lovers signed up so far :-)

I'm so psyched to see this much interest in the LB SC...and as Bear pointed out...only rule is that you use the LB...that's it! So I put you in Gina. Even if you do just one LB shot next month, that's just dandy. We all got enough pressure in the world outside of DPC, so I want this side challenge to be a fun place to escape.

Thanks. I certainly hope I can produce quite a few decent ones. My lensbaby's not worth anything sitting in its box!

YEAH BABY - I LOVE the idea of you with a Lensbaby! Hey girlfried, we've signed up for two side challenges together next year - I'm VERY excited to be hanging out with you again!

Really a great collection of lensbaby images...makes me inspired but I have a hard time finding things around me that would look good with lensbaby action...I guess I just have to go out and take tons of pics.

A horrible day today so just made it out for a short walk and took some pics with the composer. I remember now I read you should play with the diopter on the cam and I kept on missing the sweet spot. I may put up a few more shots later though will probably start saving up for the SC as I'd like to submit a shot a day even if its not taken on that day during January ;)

Yeah, it's been a while since the last DPL, huh!

I didn't know what a lensbaby did up till now :P wow I'm sad. But couldn't you just use quick mask and blur the image? Well i guess in basic editing you couldn't do that.

Those were my initial concerns about the lens and trying to justify the money for it. Yes, you could do it in post-processing, but it's going to have a very unnatural effect.

For example, take a look here, and expand the image of the bus (in the middle). See those beautiful elliptical blurred lights? You're not going to get that in Photoshop -- not easily anyway, and if you do, it's going to look very artificial.

My opinion anyway...

Thanks. Try not to look at the things as a whole for a while, but rather try to divide them into little pieces (someting like the opposite of common way we see things, anti-gestalt). Then try to see which of these parts is the most interesting one, like for example, try to realize which part of some object could represent the whole (a tire could represent the car...). This method is called the synechdoche or pars pro toto(a part for the whole). Then try to put the focus on this fragment of complex and disregard the rest and your lensbaby photos will make sense! Hope this helps :-)

I'll Dare - I rarely enter the FS anyway - so haven't got much to loose - let's flood it with our magic!

Really good advice! I think I should print this out and stick it in my camera bag. Now I just have to be very, very patient and wait for my new toy to arrive. Takes forever to get stuff to this side of the pond, though.... Patient.... I need to be patient....

Oh, and should I get something I like, I'm game for a LB or pinhole FS in January... :-)
