I have a utility room off the kitchen. I keep Karma's 50-lb bags of food there. Every night I go in to get her supper, it's dark, I turn on the light. Tonight, I suddenly wondered...

*****************

Have you ever wondered what your dog thinks when you turn on the light in a dark room?

*****************

Anyone got any other whimsical questions like that for our contemplation?

I wonder if Polar Bears get bored while they're just laying around in total whiteness.

Have you ever wondered how we've evolved from trading goods and services in order to survive to trading electrons and swiping plastic cards that are worth more than even human life?

"Mama Patti, I got hemmorhoids!"? Jejeje™

Seriously, not sure it applies in your case but shoving-with-the-butt is classic herding behavior; Karma's part shepherd and she does it all the time...

A truck travailing XX mph with a person standing in the bed jumping XX feet in the air they would land XX feet closer to the back of the truck. I wonder at what speed would the truck need to be travailing and how high would the person idiot have to just before he looked down and said "Oh sh*t!"

Funny that you bring it up. At lunch today, a colleague and I got talking about his cats. Then we wondered whether cats and dogs have their own Gods, and religion? After all religion came up as a social and political convenience for some to keep people organized, isnt it? :-)

ETA: Added a smiley before someone takes it all seriously.

That's absolutely worth thinking about. As far as I can tell I'm God to Karma. When other people come around she treats them like I'd never let her treat me, and if I just say "uh-uh" in a level tone of voice she backs off. Unless it's Renée... If it's Renée all bets are off. Is Renée her goddess? Who knows?

Both the truck and I are traveling at, say, 50 mph. When I jump, I am still traveling 50 mph. Air friction will slow me down a bit, but how much over the distance I have jumped? I think practically none... I don't think an unaided human can jump high enough to fall out of a moving truck, unless he is already at the very tailgate to begin with.

I wonder if my dog curses me silently when I wake up in the middle of the night and poke and gently shake and whisper until he goes from sleeping to pretending like he's sleeping to glaring at me as I drag him up closer to me to get some of his warmth.

OH MY WORD! This is so profound!! Wow.

I'm picturing the cavemen (and women) and then the folks using their credit card to kill the thing growing in their womb.

Wow, K10Guy! I've NEVER thought of this like that!

I wonder why I am such a good driver, and everyone around me suck.

I wonder if I was adopted, or was I just dropped off at a door step in a wicker basket.

I wonder how the steward knew when to make up the bed during a cruise on my honeymoon.

I wonder if there is a Starbucks on Area 51.

I wonder who is calling the shots, and why are they out of focus.

I wonder why all my hangups are on wire hangers.

A few years back my dog got me to a-ponderin' and this was my conclusion...

Dogs are smarter than people.

We can only very generally understand their language. We teach and control them (as much as they allow us to believe we control them) using OUR language. They understand it and to a much greater extent than many experts claim.

Case in point;
The say dogs understand the tone of voice rather than the words, and that you must get their attention before giving them commands. Why, then, did our dog understand certain words and phrases when they were spoken in any tone of voice, spoken to someone else in general conversation, or even spelled? If I said to my husband, "I walked down to the mailbox this afternoon" our dog would come running from the next room. I'm sure every dog owner has experienced similar.

Not only do they understand our language better than we understand theirs, they create their own sign language that we CAN understand. If my dog barked at me I wouldn't have a clue what he wanted. But when he nudged my leg until I followed him, led me to the fridge, waited while I opened it, then nosed the yogurt or cottage cheese or milk container there was NO doubt what he wanted. (He used to get disgusted when I put leftovers in yogurt containers and "tricked" him.)

So which is the more advanced species??

Bear is correct..you would have to have a LOT of drag in order to move say...5 feet out of the back of the truck.

Think on this:

Negating air resistance...bolt a rifle at a 90 degree angle in the bed of a truck. Drive truck in a completly STRAIGHT LINE at 100mph. Fire the rifle. Let's say the truck travels 500 yards before the bullet falls to Earth.

In relation to the truck...where does the bullet fall?

***** It falls back in the barrel of the gun ***** Pure Physics.

I hope I'm not getting off subject but...

Bolt a 22 cal rifle (that can fire a bullet a mile) on a four foot high table at exactly 180 degrees..(straight ahead). Take the same size/weight bullet and hold it at an even height with the gun barrel.

Fire the gun over an open area so the bullet does not hit anything...at the exact same time drop the bullet that is in your hand. Which bullet hits the ground first?

****Both hit the ground at the exact same time even though the one fired from the gun travels a mile. This is because all objects fall at 9.8 m/s-squared. The fact that one is traveling makes no difference!

Have you ever wondered if certain people have obsession disorders?

I wonder about things like this all the time. As you might know I am staying at my parents house in MD and my father has a pet pigeon that he takes care of from a fight it got into with something years ago and it makes the weirdest noises. I sit here and think "What the hell is this pigeon trying to say to me" BTW it only makes noises when it see's someone walk by or move.

I wonder if things/events are predeturmined and will happen "no matter what".

Example:

Let's say that I DID NOT fail the 3rd, 6th, and 8th grade twice. (3rd grade legally blind in one eye, 6th grade severe migraine headaches, 8th and 8th...just looking to drop out).

Would I have still met my wife (I met her when I was a senior in high school) If I had not failed...would I have still somehow met and married her just somewhere different at a different place or date? Was our fate predeturmined no matter what?

In case you're wondering, I finished high school and went part time to college and earned a Biology Degree with a minor in Physics....but still can't spell well !

Funny thing, the internet, I'm having a hard time figuring out if you're making fun of me or not.

Only if your non-relationship presented a paradox. Do some time traveling to test that out. :P

Maybe your minor should have been in Metaphysics, then you might have known the answer already. ;-Þ
