I really have to make sure I enter something for this. My local photoclub has a similar competition so I may as well shoot for both. Besides: Its fun!

:)

It's so fun to do backlighting in the studio I've been using recently!!! Will ETA thumb in a bit.

ETA:

It's almost a silhouette...but not quite.

you may not include wine or drinking glasses in your entry.

LOL

A good sample of what not to do, if you read the challenge description:

The subject must not become a silhouette because of the backlighting

hey thanks for pointing that out. I guess I read to fast. I thought it DID need to be a silhouette. Thx!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo...

My bad, next time I should read instead of "looking" at it LOL

I wonder if something like this would do...

It's about time that SOMEONE recognizes how over-used this is. hehe. Damn over-easily impressed voters anyway.

I assume using fill in flash to stop your subject from being a silhouette is kind of cheating?

It is a very nice image but without the front light on the poppies the foreground would be dark and not backlit thought that didn't seem to bother the voters.

As long as there's a backlight in the image you should be good to go whether the subject is backlit or not.

And so it begins.

Right. In my personal opinion this image, while lovely, is not an example of "backlighting", or in any case a marginal one. I'd have wanted the petals to be glowing with translucent light.

On a side note, bummer that they popped this challenge just a week after the leaf season ended here :-(

Another recent backlit image...I edited it a ton on a wonky monitor, so it looks a little funny at the moment.

Dang. I thought I had the excuse I needed to shoot a green gelatin pic to complete my set. I'm tempted to do it anyway - it's not a rule, so no DQ, and I'd bet many voters won't read the description. Just like normal.

Seems more side lit than back lit.

Badly written description imho as the first time I read it I thought it excluded wine 'bottles' and am sure they will be voted down even though bottles are not excluded as I'm sure I'm not the only one to miss read it;)
