I used a small buttonized black frame on my entry using my Paint Shop Pro XI. Is this a vignette and can't be used in basic editing because it was disqualified for using a cloning tool (not used) or the addition of a vignette? If this is true I am so upset because I could have just used a small black frame intead. I had no idea.

Thanks from Agnes

Borders must be distinct and recognizable as borders. If you use ANY tool that makes it look like the edges of photo itself gradually get darker, it will be considered a vignette and DQ'd. Stick to simple, hard-edged borders in Basic and you'll be fine. Personally, I wish borders themselves were subject to the same editing rules as the image or limited to simple one or two color frames to reduce this sort of confusion. :-/

Ok. Gosh that is to bad. I had a 6.0 to and lost it because of a stupid black frame. Now I know for the future I guess. It was so small to. Only about a 10 for the frame and it didt affect the picture at all. I just liked it better then a regular black frame for that picture. I am still going to be happy about the 6.0. I am just disappointed I didn't understand that one thing when I read so carefully.

scalvert can you tell me if you can use in basic editing more than one hard frame? Like if I wanted to put a small green and a small yellow and a small green again after it is multiple hard frames allowed in basic editing?

Your idea for hard frames sounds fine. As far as I know it isn't a problem for basic editing rules. If you look at previous basic editing challenges you will see all sorts of frames. Your best bet is to make sure the frames are symmetric (the same size on opposing sides), otherwise they could be misconstrued as objects other than a frame and be disqualified.

I had some vignette dressing on my salad last night and OMG it was sooooo good.

Yes you can. Here's an even more complicated version:

The most important thing IMO is that it functions as a border: a frame that's obviously added to the image rather than something that looks like part of the capture.

Don't feel too bad. I got DQ'd for a rule that I helped WRITE. :-/

Mine was the same size on all sides but I think because the outside of the photo was mostly black the frame didn't really show and it must have looked like I blended it in somehow into the picture.

Thank you scalvert. That makes sense. I don't think that the administrators here could see my frame very clearly as a frame because it blended into the picture so much which was already very blackened on the edges. Nah the whole thing was just a fluke. I didn't understand what a vignette was and just could have avoided the whole problem by making the frame more visible. Next time I know. :/

Sorry. hahah, I meant it was funny in general. I am sorry you lost your entry though. I know how that feels now. :=/

I was so excited to be getting good comments and a big 6 to. Compared to my first one that only got a 4.9 or something it was so cool to see a 6. Maybe next time. ;)

Ooooooo karmat. Hhahaha. Low blow.

The next entries I don't know. My camera won't do macros like I want and I can't get the picture I want for the Art guy either with it. He looks like quite a character. Hahha. I might just pass on both and try to guess what the macros are. I do have one in but I am not sure it will be good. If I guess the others though I just hope if I get it right there is a little prize or something -- like a small vacation home in the Adirondacks? ;O

No, we all (SC) have a handy SMITE button available where applicable ... ;-)
